Why the “08” E-Class?

Have been doing lots of communicating and getting helpful
information from many of you in other posts.

But, to put it all together, the bottom line seems to be that
there will be absolutely NO CHANGE in the E from 07 to 08.
Disappointing.

Therefore .. why does MB even bother (in June 07) to even
change the year to ‘08? Production started last week on the
“08s.” This way early “intro” - for nothing - seems silly.

It appears that in lieu of electronics upgrades their upgrade
amounts to changing the title year! Yippee! I’ll post the title
in my window!

Jimm,
My guess is there will be some technical upgrades between 07 and 08 that go unreported.
There also might be some upgrades in equipment. The US specs posted recently by Txhurdle did not seem to be complete to me; at least, there was far less information than what Canadian dealers have received for 08 E Class.
As you know from my earlier posts, Canadian 08 E Class will be getting more optional equipment as standard. Since the US is a very competitive market for MB, the same trend might apply for US bound E Class.

That trend began in the USA last year with the 2007 E-Class. My 2007 actually cost (slightly) less than an identically equipped (minus 80 hp) 2006 would have.

It takes longer for cars to reach the west coast than the east coast so even if a car is built in the first decade, it won't reach LA until 16-July which is the MBUSA release date. They won't release cars on the east coast before they release them on the west coast.

In order to have orders to produce on the first day of '08 production, you have to start taking orders from customers and dealers sometime earlier than that. So far as I can tell, everything seems to fit.

It’s just that you’d think that MB would throw
in ‘some’ kind of bone for the 08 purchasers.

A great 08 NAV would be my bone of choice.

The only new features are options (according to my sales person - so take it for what it is...): Paint colors and an AMG kit. I ordered an '08 with the AMG kit.

As production of '08 is to begin soon (now, I think), hopefully the info wil be available shortly.

From TXhurdle on another thread:

"321 AMG Sport Package: (Steering Wheel Gearshift Buttons, AMG Sportline, 18" AMG Monoblock Wheels, 80V Speed & Load Index, AMg Sport Code, Avant Gard Package)"

For me, it boiled down to a body kit (air dam, side skirts, rear diffuser and wheels) that I liked.

Are you saying that: “Steering Wheel Gearshift Buttons” can be added on?
This was one thing I was much hoping would be standard on the 08 Sport.
