Yes that's what I meant. Maybe clearer to say that only one phone can be active at any given time.

I need to do this; I experienced the inconvenience yesterday when my friend called me on my cell and I could not answer his call since calls were being diverted to my car; he finally called me on my home phone while I was fumbling to disconnect bluetooth.

you guys make it sound like the bluetooth in the car is always on and never shuts off....

isnt it only on for like 2 mins more after you shut the car down?

I have Softkey+1 = BT ON, Softkey+2 = BT OFF on my V3 RAZR.

Yes, the BT in the car, never shuts off. My phone pairs to it even when I'm in the house if I turn BT on. Infact, when I'm walking to my car I turn it on and it pairs.

I think thats why the car has two batteries. One is to keep things like Keyless Go, and BT in a passive mode.

I am not using an approved MB phone. The call waiting works but the notification doesn't.(I don't hear the beep on the car speakers, hear it through phone speaker though)

Call waiting doesn't work for me w/ the RAZR V3 cradle. I have to look at the phone in my armrest glove to see who the other caller is as well.

It does beep however to alert me another call is incoming.

Now I deliberately switch off Command when I park the car in the garage.

.. and it automatically will disconnect from the phone? Thats an interesting idea. I might try that, but then that means when I get back to the car, I'll have to turn it back on. Hrmm .. I guess its a trade off.

Sounds odd to me if you keep connected to the car when it is parked at home. I have a separate garage building but close to my house and I always get disconnected from the car immediately when closing home door.

You must have more distance to your car in the US, and possibly higher building attenuation, for concrete buildings at least.

Works for me. I am sure if MB permitted, Command could be programmed to switch off completely, when the car turns off.

My study is adjacent to my garage and I seem to spend a lot of time in there (on this forum ); through the garage wall, I am probably no more than 15feet away.

yup, thats my problem too. Thats why I have Softkey+1 set to BT ON, and Softkey+2 set to BT OFF.

After just a week of having the phone, I'm almost in the habit of doing it. Its not a huge inconvenience actually, and I like the fact that the MB system doesn't shut off once the car is turned off like it does w/ a Lexass. It allows me to turn on BT on my phone several feet from my car so by the time I sit inside, its paired, the phone book is loaded, and everything is ready to go.

Also, for Moto phone owners .. you can turn on BT via the shortcuts even while talking on the phone, so you can easily move to the car environment from inside the house or office seamlessly.

My garage is attached to my house with the car parked in the garage. Right now, my phone is sitting on the coffee table in front of me, about 12 feet from the wall that acts as the demarcation between my living room and my garage. The phone is not connected to the car.

My car shuts down it's bluetooth electronics approximately 2 minutes after I exit the car. Every time. I've never had a problem with my phone staying connected to the car over night, for a couple of hours or more than a couple of minutes for that matter.

Furthermore, after my bluetooth connection has timed out it will not reconnect until I either:

1. Open a door or trunk on the car
2. Turn the ignition on, if somehow the car's door was already open.

The people that say their bluetooth in their cars are on all the time have either some sort of bug, or are incorrect.

I'm using a Verizon Wireless Motorola RAZR V3c

**EDIT**

After giving it some more thought, I'm wondering if the electronics on the NON Keyless-Go cars is different. With the Keyless-Go cars, like mine, the car wakes up and fires up the electronics when I touch a door handle or trunk.

Not sure if it's any difference on the non Keyless-Go cars, but just a thought.

I wonder if the newer cars behave differently than your 2004. I can't experiment with mine, because I use a cradle instead of bluetooth.

I find this problem pretty strange too. But whatever it is isn’t it possible just to run the additional wire and connect it to the ignition circuit, so it would get powered only when ignition is on?

Great topic, guys!
I just got 04 E500 and all this info is very useful to me!! Thanks!

Another thing could be the fact that I have keyless go as someone mentioned. Its one of the reasons more electronics might be left running?

Hi,

From my experience, if bluetooth is activated on the phone it connects to the car almost as soon as you unlock the door.
In my case the phone is already connected to the car by the time i get in the driver's sit.
And it does not disconnect unless you move out of the 10m range.
On the first few days i had the car i went to a coffee shop and the car was parked within 10m of where i was seated. Since our local weather is still around 25C at 1930 we can still seat outside. For the whole time i was at the coffee shop the phone was kept connected to the car.

As far as continuing a call after reaching destination, just switch to the handset while still in a call. Then lock the car and move away.
In addition on the COMAND in order to disconnect the phone press and hold the TEL button. To connect press and release the TEL button.

Phone numbers must be in SIM card in order to be recognised by COMAND.

And the Bluetooth puck LED light is always active even if the car is locked for days.

That is all i know at this time.

Also remember that when you shut down the car, several circuits are kept "warm" for a few minutes after you lock the car & walk away (keyless go or no). The bluetooth phone connector is on one of those circuits. Then those circuits get killed. Thats when your phone will no longer be "answered" by the car.

The phone circuit begins energizing just about as soon as you open the door. Even though I use a cradled phone, I can hear the phone's "turning on" music coming from the console by the time I get into the seat.
