CPO 08 E350 4MATIC AMG SPORT/P2... totaled 05 e320 4matic R.I.P. 12/04 - 2/10
Question $900??? for Ipod Integration Kit

I am wondering if the estimate to install an ipod kit in my 2005 E320 4MATIC provided by a mercedes dealer in Alexandria, Virginia is to high or the normal price?

$419 - parts
$481- labor, SA said it includes about 4 hours of labor

Grand Total - $900 just to install an ipod kit

That's about normal...E-classes are a little more difficult to install the Ipod kit

Yep, that's what my quote was from my dealer too.

From what I have been told at the MB dealer...

They have to tap into the wiring harness, update, your command system, and some other stuff (my eyes glazed over and I sort of began zoning out after he said most of the dash had to come apart).

Good luck

Thats pretty close to what I paid several years ago. The dash did not have to come apart. After using it for quite a while I feel it was well worth it.

Take a look at this thread: https://mbworld.org/forums/showpost....07&postcount=8.

The install is not difficult to do it just takes time. You don't have to take the dash apart but you do need to take the COMAND out since the AUX input is connected to the iPod harness and it is located on the back of COMAND.

A dealer who has done more than 5 installs should be able to do it in much less than 4 hours. When I got my car updated the tech told me than he could do it in 45 minutes.

Oh, and get the iPod kit on eBay here. I got mine from this guy.

Why can't I find a 2003 ipod kit to buy. Everything I see is for 2004 and newer. Can anyone tell me which one works for an '03?

Also, I was told that my local best buy guy could install it if I just bought the ipod kit from MB. He said it would be a lot cheaper to go through him for the labor. Didn't give me a quote though...

This isn't a Sony or Pioneer which has a simple plug-in outlet in the back of the headunit. Installation is quite time consuming (head unit to trunk and back) and requires a reprogram of the MOST system to get the dash and steering wheel controls to work.

It was ugly to get the dealer to agree to install the ipod unit in my car for free when I bought it.
