Post Insurance Rates???

I put a call into AAA to find out what my policy would change to when I would get my new car in a few. I just got off the phone with my AAA agent (I live in southern Cali and I am told that AAA here "owns its own insurance agency).

2008 Merc E350 - my overall policy would increase by $35.00 - MSRP - $55,615
2008 BMW 528i - my overall policy would increase by $397.00 - MSRP - $48,775

1. Why is there such a difference ($362)?
2. Does AAA own its own insurance agency or are they a broker?

1. The typical way the typical BMW has driven his car in the past, with the resulting claims made.

2. If the AAA owns an AGENCY, well then they would be the broker working within that agency to place people with Insurance Companies. Do you mean are they an Insurance Company or a Broker?

1. lol ... This I cannot deny

2. Yes. My AAA center in Manhattan Beach claims they are an insurance company... I remember reading, on this board somewhere, that AAA is simply a broker and that they buy insurance policy through other companies.

When I said this to my AAA agent, he said some AAA centers buy insurance policies while others (like the one I belong to) are a non-for-profit business but "have their own insurance agency..."

I thought this was ambiguous and vague at best. Just wanted to see what you all think. Is is time I should switch companies?
