Charcoal filter
Charcoal filter
when I purchased my 2003 E320 it had a interior smell from the previous owner smoking. Is there a Charcoal filter in the W211? If so would changing it help get rid of the smell?
Yes, there is a cabin filter that you could change located under the hood on the passenger side firewall, but I don't think that changing the filter alone would help get rid of the smell. I would do a full interior detail and place several cups of baking soda inside while the car is parked.
Good recommendations, Ryda. Another suggestion
nay, a MUST if you want to get the smoke smell reduced is that you need to have the A/C evaporator cleaned. A dealer svc dept can do that for you and yes, it's pricey (maybe 150 bones?) but you'll never, ever get rid of the smell if the evaporator isn't completely sanitized.
Good luck.

Piranajoe,
Reckdriver is correct about the evaporator. I had mine cleaned and it has no odor anymore. In the mean time, believe it or not, a small bucket of charcoal (for bb-que) will help absorb some of it. I did this on another one of my vehicles when it was suggested by someone else, and after about a month, the cigarette smell went away (and I have a really keen sense of smell)... make sure it's not the kind that's impregnated with lighter fluid..instead get plain charcoal briquettes. You can hide them under the seats. Don't laugh, this really worked for me..

Thanks for the different options. I will probably try them all..
