COMAND unit died

My COMAND unit died on Friday, I went to turn on the radio, for some reason the settings menu came up, I pressed the radio button and the Logo screen came up and would not go away I have read a lot of threads here but nothing like this.

I took the car (2005 E500 with Nav, no phone or blue tooth or voice command) to the dealer after two hours SA said they had to replace the COMAND unit. I can not get any of the CD's out as the changer won't open and eject doesn't work.

Has anyone else had this problem and is there a fix for the unit in the car?

Why are dealers constantly doing warranty work? Do they need the money or is this year a lemon?

I love my car the quality and fit, now that they fixed the Transmission valve body it feels like 300 hp but this Benz is in the shop more than my friends Lambo Gallardo or Ferrari.

1) If your friends drove their Lambo or Ferrari as much you drive your Benz, trust me, things would be diff.

2) From what I understand, COMAND is not covered by warranty? or is it that its just not covered by the extended warranty, but is with the factory warranty?

.... nothing to brag about, it is a previous model....
I had similar problem before, but I reset it w/ #6 fuse and all come back normal. Have you tried that yet?

1. turn off your radio.
2. remove the key
3. go to the trunk and remove fuse #6 for 2 min.
4. put the fuse back in.
5. insert your key and turn to position 1. (do NOT turn on the radio yet)
6. reset factory setting in your cluster.
7. turn your radio on.

Thank you for the help. I'll go and find fuse #2 and see if the reset works on my car.

VIC888, I agree regarding the Lambo, but the Ferrari is driven daily and has spent less time in the shop than my MB. On nice days I take the motorcycle.

FUSE #6, NOT #2.

I had same thing happened to me as well...unplugged battery in rear trunk for a few minutes, put everything back together and hasnt happened since.

Probably better if you remove fuse as stated earlier, since you will lose some settings if you disconnect battery. However, you can try this if fuse does not work for ya.

Ended up going to dealer do to time factor they said they put in a new unit and now it the "MOST" ? connector? any way now the car won't be done till tommorrow .

They are also moaning and groaning regarding the software update. I have no reason why. Getting some of the legitimate updates /service as seen on this forum out of my dealer is like trying to get blood from a stone.

for some reason some dealer dont want to do it... I think the reason may be that they prefer you to Upgrade the hole car not the use the software....lol Bc when I take the SA about the upgrade and I gave him the part number he look it up and said its in the O7 E have has it.... ...lol
