I wonder how much of this will make its way to the US. I wonder if I should hold off ordering the $2K phone w/voice control

Thanks for the info

Great to hear about the bluetooth...I am assuming that you still will also need to buy the voice recognition software to run everything.

Bluetooth

Here is the description of bluetooth.

BluetoothTM wireless technology revolutionizes the personal connectivity market by providing freedom from wired connections - enabling links between mobile computers, mobile phones, portable handheld devices, and connectivity to the Internet. Interface, synchronize, exchange? All of the above, and more. Bluetooth technology redefines the very way we experience connectivity.

Where it works
Everywhere. Hardware that complies with the Bluetooth wireless specification ensures communication compatibility worldwide. As a low-cost, low-power solution with industry-wide support, Bluetooth wireless technology allows you to bring connectivity with you. You define the boundaries of your productivity - in Europe, in Asia, in America, in whatever place your business may take you.

Why it works
Establishing a standard means integrating well-tested technology with the power-efficiency and low-cost of a compliant radio system (about the Specification). Establishing a standard also means a group of industry leading promoter companies who drive the specification forward (about the Bluetooth SIG). Bluetooth technology works because it has been developed as a cross industry solution that marries a vision of engineering innovation with an understanding of business and consumer expectations.

Who's making it work
Bluetooth wireless technology is supported by product and application development in a wide range of market segments, including software developers, silicon vendors, peripheral and camera manufacturers, mobile PC manufacturers and handheld device developers, consumer electronics manufacturers, car manufacturers, and test and measurement equipment manufacturers.

whoa is right.
You all know how frustrating it is removing that v60 from its cradle or forgeting to do so? Well kiss those days goodbye.

After the initial sync, you dont need to plug your phone in anymore. Once you are in range, and your phone is recognised, it will sync addressbook info and you can make calls with your phone even though its not physically plugged in.

Once again, I pose the question...should we hold off buying the v60 phone w/voice option? Do you guys think it will once again be a "special" MB phone version that will have to be used with Bluetooth, or any phone from now on?

Also, does anyone know if you can get the voice control without getting the phone. I saw an option on the MBUSA site under accessories for Voice Controls ($480), but I have not seen such an option on any pricing info that I have.

I know that I am, if for no other reason that I'm waiting for a promotion on the expensive bugger Based on what the technology is, I think it would be a great addition to the world's greatest car!

I am wondering if the input for MP3 players is the same as the AUX input that exists on the current COMAND units... hmmmm

I am assuming that the v60 phone will be replaced with a bluetooth capable phone. Therefore, you will probably need a new phone.

Here's a good link for more Bluetooth technology info. as it pertains to use in cars. Net - it's cheaper than current technology... so will M-B's price drop? Doubt it
