I Did it - Upgraded to an E550

I took the family to visit friends at our old hometown, Potomac MD over the weekend, and checked EuroMotorcars website just for grins. Turns out they had four (!) remaining 2007 E550 sports in stock. 3 were P1 cars, but one was a P2 car. I inquired online, and with the $5K in trunk money was quoted a very favourable price, about 14% off MSRP discount. It turns out the P2 car was very late April 07 production, still had all the plasitic protector stuff on it, and had 12 miles on the clock. When I got there, I had to haggle with them for about an hour on the trade, but ended up $1K shy of "excellent" KBB for my 05. Once I achieved that, I did the deal on the spot.

Needless to say, I am thrilled to be the owner of an E550 sport with P2.

Initial observations are that Mercedes is pretty much building perfect cars again. I have found no flaws. Power is everywhere with new engine (this car is FAST), and the suspension/steering are much better tuned. The overall package is notably refined everywhere. About the only negative is that the "easy exit" now only means the steering wheel, vs. the seat and steering wheel on the 05. I can live without it.

I had pretty much given up on finding a suitable 07 model based on the supply situation and dealer arrogance here in the southeast, but a little patience and perserverance still do pay off sometimes. I will update my signature soon.

Congrats. What's your baseline for the comparison? Looks like you had an '05 W211. I'm assuming that the Cherokee isn't your comparison baseline.

14% of of MSRP. Not bad, I settled for 12% off. I hope you like yours as much as I do mine. I just got back from a month on the boat and will post my first impressions in the next several days. One thing I did notice while detailing is that the paint is flawless. Much better than on my trucks and large SUV's that I was convinced I had to have prior to this vehicle.
