glass cleaning tips?

I would like to hear success stories on how best to do a pristine, streak-free cleaning of interior glass.

It seems no matter the combination of cleaning product/cloth I've tried in the past, I always end up with some evidence of my cleaning attempts on the backside of my windshield, which exacerbates glare from the dash. What's the killer technique?

I use Stoner Invisible Glass with a razor blade (except on the rear windshield) then follow up with newspaper.

I've had good success with "Sprayway".

Ryda...keep those bugs away from me !

Off topic for a moment : same question as the OP for carpet cleaners ? I have
yet to find one that really cleans well. So far, Folex is OK but not great.
Several posters in the detailing section have mentioned 303, but haven't tried that.

Used to use what everyone above me is using^^^ but still wasnt happy.. I find that 99% rubbing alcohol works the best. And its only 99 cents and a bottle lasts a long time. Screw paying $9.99 for a spray can..

Invisible glass works very well. But don't do it if the windows are hot otherwise it will dry too fast and it will leave streaks.

Hey AndrewAZ...
how do you clean it with rubbing alcohol? I always found that the rubbing alcohol only got a small area well. Do you put it in a trigger bottle?
thanks...gene

I'm not paying $10 for a can, more like 2 or 3 dollars tops....they're in bulk at Sam's Club, which is where I purchased my last bunch.

You can also try using a clay bar on your windshield. Yep, the same clay bar you use before you wax your car. It will get rid of all the crap on the outside of the windsheild, then use the invisible glass.

Even pure alcohol doesn't stay pure for long. It absorbs moisture from the air very fast and 99% quickly gets to 70%. Water will leave streaks.

For glass with lot's of crud, a claybar works well as Benz O stated, but when they're really bad, steel wool #00 and mild soap / water works wonders (also works great on chrome exhaust tips. The detailing forum on m3forum.com has plenty of very good info.

I guess, but a lot of cleaners streak period. If not used on really hot glass or in the sun, invisible glass is the best I have found. It only costs me about $3 at Target.

After a good cleaning with Stoner Invisible Glass, once a month or so I always do a fresh coat of Rain-X all around. They have a deodorant sized container with a foam rubber applicator that is real handy.
Rain-X is definitely the shnit.

I just did the RainX wipes for the first time the other day, I haven't yet tried the original stuff. I think it worked, I guess we'll see since it is supposed to rain tomorrow.

I also just bought the RainX windshield wiper fluid and I'll put it in as soon as I run out of the MB stuff.

Besides Invisible Glass, I've found that the best streak-free results come from using plain water and a clean chamois or rag.
