Infrared Door sensor peculiar problem
I have a 2002 E320. Recently the convenience summer feature where the remote key is pressed and held so that all windows and the sunroof opens (or closes) has stopped working. I tried both keys and its the same. I have however dis-abled the fuse in the boot that enables the remote key radio frequency sensor and the same thing happens. So I know its not a problem with the kets as they work on radio frequencies. Oneof the mechanics said it is probably the infrared sensor in the drivers door handle that may be faulty.
Has anyone else experieced similar problems ?

I have a 2003 (first year U.S.) that has sensors in both front door handles.
The passenger side still works but the driver's side is dead. Both fobs.
I would probably replace it if I thought the range was better. On the working side, you must be within 10-15 feet and directly opposite the sensor. Both fob batteries are old. In my climate, being able to open the car up from a hundred feet or so (30 meters) would be worthwhile. As it is, by the time the roof / windows are down, I am in the car anyway. Nice feature but execution leaves something to be desired.
