2008 and Sensotronic

I know the Sensotronic in the W211 was problematic when introduced, so on 2007/08 cars has MBZ reverted to a totally traditional hydraulic brake system or have they just fixed the Sensotronic brake by wire?

Thanks,
Rick

It isn't SBC any more, but it isn't strictly speaking "traditional" either. They learned how to enhance the traditional one to do the tricks SBC was able to do. Like "SBC Hold" or allowing the car brake on its own (at least with the Distronic Plus, not sure about W211 where it used to have an automatic slow down feature).

It is closer to the traditional ABS brake system, not like on a W123 but like on a W210.

Yes, they went back to vacuum boost in 2007. I have a 2008 and the brakes are much better than they were on my 2004. They no longer have the excess sensitivity and lack of linear operation of the SBC braking system. They also have larger front rotors and excellent stopping ability.

DB,

Please keep in mind that the EURO setup is different from the US setup. Not everything available in Europe translates directly to the US version.

You mean the SBC features were not available in the US? That is new info to me. I know a few differences but this sounds odd. Or is it a US liability issue again, the car would not keep position if you switch engine off... Thanks for clarifying anyway.

They were but some of the features available on brakes, like the hold trick you mentioned above, are not on the non SBC cars.
