Do you know if they will integrate together? For example, on my Honda, when the navi system wants to tell you a direction (because it talks to you), it mutes the stereo (or CD) and then gives the instruction to you and then "un-mutes" the stereo back.

The phone, on the other hand - if you have the integrated phone, the Nav lady is MUTED any time you are using the phone hands free. Makes sense, but you gotta remember to pay attention to the display instead of counting on voice commands while yer yaking!
On my 03' 4runner...the DVD/NAV disc is hidden away; and not accessible.
If this is true; and I can not play music CD's at all when using the NAV unit...i'm going to have to pick up the CD changer. Because from my understanding, I will be able to play music then.
So get the CD changer!!

Does anyone know what the dealers are charging to stick in a changer? Is it $400 installed like the option? I think I heard something about dealers not even having them yet.

$400 is the price from the factory. I think if you install it afterwards, they will also charge you installation fees, etc., so maybe $600-$800??? I'm not sure for the CD Changer, but I know for the v60 phone, it is $1600 from the factory. The dealer said if we install it afterwards it would be around $1900-$2K.
Warranty? ONE YEAR ONLY!!
If you have the CD Changer then I agree you are okay. You would leave the Navi DVD in the single slot and put your music in the changer.
bmms8, I'm not sure about this. If you don't have the CD Changer, then you only have one slot. Either you put in the Navi DVD or you put in a music CD, but you can not have both. So either you use the navi or you listen to music. This is the way it works on the COMAND I system also (from what I understand).

Unknown how many features of this system will make it to the US version (my dealer was skeptical that Bluetooth would be in the US version for example)

I hope to God that, that article is correct. But i'm not too sure that is it. Because the E-Class brochure reads:
"COMMAND can play an audio CD in the DVD drive when not navigating"
Now, this doesn't make it 100% clear as to how COMMAND ll will be set up. However, it does lead one to believe it will be like the first COMMAND system. Why would they mention the above fact if the DVD drive is hidden out of the way like most NAV systems?
Maybe we just need to face it, the Germans aren't much when it comes to electronic design. Buy a Siemens house phone and you'll know what I mean.

There is an additional aux. outlet in the glove compartment in the 208 w/COMAND.
By setting the COMAND on AUX you can navigate in addition to playing CDs, tapes, MPV through the aux outlet in the glove box.
If not, there would have been some information available instead of the mystery we have seen. Now it has been pay your money (we will give you a discount if you do) and then we will tell you what it is later.
I admit I paid my money but still have not been able to find out anything about it. I have called MBz and they say they have nothing on it yet, even tho it is due out in a couple of months. I did find out it is made by Becker.
So.....maybe all the concern is for nothing at this point. I did order the CD player so maybe it is easier for me to not be concerned.
Based on Harman's optical bus, "MOST", this new system provides multi-media, DVD based navigation, Internet access, radio and music reproduction, hands free telephone and voice activation. The audio will be Harman's proprietary new seven channel Logic 7 system.
Dr. Sidney Harman, Executive Chairman of the Board, Harman International, said, "This major new award represents over $200 million in annual incremental sales. This remarkable system will establish a new benchmark in infotainment/telematics including innovative bit stream processing and storage technologies. First shipments for the all new Mercedes S Class are scheduled for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2005.
