Wink New E discounts.

1250 discount over MSRP. In California. Multiple dealers offer this.
But have to show patience. It seems as time passes they are ready to deal more. Keep posting if better discount available.

(3000 hold back + invoice plus 3250 = MSRP making it $ 6250 Dealer profit on base 2003 E 320 if purchased at MRSP.

discount & Dealer profit

Did you mean that the California Dealers are offering $1250. below MSRP?

I understand that the dealer gets 7% off MSRP and also a 5% hidden holdback which in effect gives dealer 12% profit.

Every dealer I have talked to says there is only the 7% to work with. I suppose the salesmen are not aware of the additional 5% but I doubt it.

Somewhere on this board someone posted the numbers and site address of autospy with the information.

I haven't heard of anyone doing that kind of deal on 03' E's. Please post who's doing this...or email me if you don't mind.

Also, in regards to what mercedes gives dealers, there's a couple of things to remember.

First, the holdback isn't a set price. They can get "up to" 5% back. However, how much they get back is dependent on their CSI rating.

Second, most dealer general managers (in most cases the only guys you can mention the holdback to, and not be looked at like "what the hell are you talking about? what's a 5% holdback?") consider the holdback "sacred" and refuse discount cars using that number. This makes even more sense since, they really don't know how much holdback money they'll see.

Smile Personal experience.

I am interested in ordering 2003 E 320 and hence was talking to 2 dealers. When went in person they refuse to lower more than $500 it seemed. (did not haggle) I did test drive though.

Later I contacted internet dealer managers (I guess) and have been offered $1250 discount off MSRP so far.

Have not ordered yet.
I learnt about hold back and invoice etc. all numbers on edmunds townhall and this forum. Thanks to all for posting the useful info.

Don't trust the internet managers in all cases. I talked to an internet manager in Houston, first he told me he could do $750 off, I told him make it $1500 and I would do the deal, and he said he thought it was okay, but would check with his manager. He didn't call back, so after 2 days I called him, and he had not done anything yet, and then he called me back again after checking and told me he couldn't do the $1500, so I said the $750 would be good, and he told me he could not do that either. So some of these guys (not all) lie to you to get you to come in. I've never had this experience with non-MB dealers.

That's frankly hard to believe, given what little discounting is elsewhere for such a highly-rated car. I would also like to know the dealers from where this $$$ is being offered!

At least you guys get a discount. None in Australia. Pay R.R.P. or there not interested.

If you deal with an internet manager or salesperson through e-mail, their word is written and therefore they can't go back on it. Take your best offer to another dealer and tell them to beat it and you'll gladly buy from them.

justin, I agree as long as they put it in an email. That's the test, if they put it in an email, you know it is real.

Thumbs up Yup.

I communicated only by e mail. So have it in writing : 1250 off MSRP. (I dislike the phone communication as it ends up as them wanting you to visit the dealership where they will see what they can do...too uncomforting to haggle)

Confront the guy with the email quote. Be interesting to hear how he explains that it is not valid.

It may be best to check nearby cities (by email) to see what dealers there will do. Tell them you have the quote and what can they do.

Good luck.

Cool Discount in North/Central NJ Dealerships

I was getting approx $1000 off an E320 at both the Bridgewater MB and Princeton MB dealerships in NJ - and I went in person. I was getting a $500 discount + 6CD changer for free (approx $400) + waving the $150 registration fee. I have not ordered as yet and plan to within a couple of weeks (once my wife and I haggle over the colors/options that we want) - but don't let these guys make you pay MSRP for any cars ordered from now on - especially in the NYC Metro area where we are crowded with MB dealerships.

That's true if you live in or around areas that are dealing on the new E. In the Northern VA/Washington area, it's still firmly MSRP.

The same (isolated dealership) is true here in Cincinnati, but I have every intention of "bargaining" once the car arrives. You know, " Do I really want this car with these options, or do I want to do something else?" routine to see what that gets me since my car has already been ordered.

I'm sure if the market is softer then that they'll be willing to budge some.

That tells the whole story....Ray has to pay full sticker price and the dealer sticks to him on delivery.

Still can't understand how they can tell you they have the car when they have not even received it yet.

That is the epitomy of poor service and bad customer attitude!!

Can't agree more, Ed. If I were Ray, I would stick it back to 'em by demanding some price concession!

And if they don't give in, we should throw the sales guy in this pot!

Thumbs up

Read on this forum 2 people with purchases with good deals.
1. ashahashah bought in NJ for $1500 off MSRP.
2. abhansali bought in Fremont, CA for $2100 off MSRP.

Spies post up to $2500 off MSRP possible which seems almost real. Assuming that if we (the potential buyers) wait 60 days there may be more discounts closer to invoice rather than MSRP.

a word of CAUTION

Be careful with discounts when you trade, because the value of your trade-in might decrease in direct proportion to the discount on the new car, -- or even more!
