New E discounts.
But have to show patience. It seems as time passes they are ready to deal more. Keep posting if better discount available.
(3000 hold back + invoice plus 3250 = MSRP making it $ 6250 Dealer profit on base 2003 E 320 if purchased at MRSP.
I understand that the dealer gets 7% off MSRP and also a 5% hidden holdback which in effect gives dealer 12% profit.
Every dealer I have talked to says there is only the 7% to work with. I suppose the salesmen are not aware of the additional 5% but I doubt it.
Somewhere on this board someone posted the numbers and site address of autospy with the information.
Also, in regards to what mercedes gives dealers, there's a couple of things to remember.
First, the holdback isn't a set price. They can get "up to" 5% back. However, how much they get back is dependent on their CSI rating.
Second, most dealer general managers (in most cases the only guys you can mention the holdback to, and not be looked at like "what the hell are you talking about? what's a 5% holdback?") consider the holdback "sacred" and refuse discount cars using that number. This makes even more sense since, they really don't know how much holdback money they'll see.
Later I contacted internet dealer managers (I guess) and have been offered $1250 discount off MSRP so far.
Have not ordered yet.
I learnt about hold back and invoice etc. all numbers on edmunds townhall and this forum. Thanks to all for posting the useful info.
I am interested in ordering 2003 E 320 and hence was talking to 2 dealers. When went in person they refuse to lower more than $500 it seemed. (did not haggle) I did test drive though.

It may be best to check nearby cities (by email) to see what dealers there will do. Tell them you have the quote and what can they do.
Good luck.
We have learnt in this forum that people have obtained quotes fo up to $2100 off MSRP on new E (320/500). This forum sure is to save many of us some money by distribution of knowledge.
2100 off MSRP at Fremont Dealership

I'm sure if the market is softer then that they'll be willing to budge some.
That tells the whole story....Ray has to pay full sticker price and the dealer sticks to him on delivery.
Still can't understand how they can tell you they have the car when they have not even received it yet.
That is the epitomy of poor service and bad customer attitude!!

Can't agree more, Ed. If I were Ray, I would stick it back to 'em by demanding some price concession!
And if they don't give in, we should throw the sales guy in this pot!
1. ashahashah bought in NJ for $1500 off MSRP.
2. abhansali bought in Fremont, CA for $2100 off MSRP.
Spies post up to $2500 off MSRP possible which seems almost real. Assuming that if we (the potential buyers) wait 60 days there may be more discounts closer to invoice rather than MSRP.
Be careful with discounts when you trade, because the value of your trade-in might decrease in direct proportion to the discount on the new car, -- or even more!

So here's me giving myself a round of applause for using them:
