Exclamation A burning smell???

today and yesterday when i was driving, i noticed a slight "burning" smell. not too heavy but i was alarmed. could it be the heater being turned on for the first time? or should i take it in to check? the car says i have 0 malfunctions.

Mine did the same thing, as do all cars during the break in period. As parts reach a higher temperature for the first time (say on longer drives, more aggressive driving, long engine idling, etc, etc, etc) this natuarally occurs. As long as the temp guage is ok, no problems.

It might be the coating that is initially on all exhaust components, hence the smell... which should dissipate soon.

I just brought my E320 home the other night. It drove beautifully and the temp gauge was normal, sort of right in the middle. When I pulled into my garage at home, it smelled like the thing was on fire. Not exactly but I couldn't tell if it was the fresh brakes or various coatings baking off the engine or, more likely, the catalytic converter. My salesperson called the next morning to see how I liked the car and when I mentioned the odor to him he said not to worry, they all do that. The smell is much less today than it was 2 days ago, almost gone in fact.

I will post detailed lease numbers on that thread.
