I've had the same problem. In fact, I have the factory installed iPod adapter in my 2006 C350 and it works fine with the iPhone, steering wheel conrols and all. I recently received my 2008 E550 and when the iPhone is plugged in I receive the error message. However, I can play music but all must be controlled via iPhone. I wonder why my '06 recognizes it as an iPod and my '08 gives me error messages? Could it be because I have the regular Harmon Kardon system w/o NAV in the '06 and I do have the COMMAND NAV system in the '08? Hmmmmmm....can this be remedied?
http://www.wireless4mb.com/iPhone%20...20Vehicles.pdf it works Mercedes look at page to for connecting Iphone to Ipod kit..

I know. I've seen that pdf before. Nonetheless, I still get the error message on my display with no control access from the steering wheel. Do you think this is an issue that an MB dealer could correct?
I have the bluetooth adapter in my car however I use it with my Blackberry 8830 World Edition. I will connect my son's Iphone tomorrow to check if the phone works while connected to the Ipod adapter.

No, an iPhone and an iPod are NOT exactly the same thing when it comes to audio. The problem with the iPhone is that not all iPod devices work with it. I have one myself (an iPhone) and I can tell you that I have found many times that external speakers designed for an iPod are NOT compatible with my iPhone. Sometimes I get a message on the iPhone that the device is not fully compatible, but will work, and that they recommend turning off the phone function, and sometimes I just get nothing at all. I had a charger / RF modulator for my iPod nano, and when I plugged it into my iPhone, I get power, but no sound at all. When I contacted the manufacturer, they stated that the device in question does not yet support the iPhone.
I have no idea why.

I am only referring to MP3 functionality/compatibility with the Ipod Interface installed in my 2007 E320 Bluetec. The gentleman's original question was if anyone had problems while connecting Iphone to the Ipod interface; I did not have any issues or errors with audio connectivity and steering wheel control functions with the Ipod or Iphone, when connected to the IPod interface in my vehicle; both function equally well.

After the newly released software update for the iPhone, I can confirm it works fine with iPod adapter. In addition, while connected to the iPod adapter, the phone works accordingly with the bluetooth module. CONFIRMED! Don't you just love technology!

Was your bluetooth installed at the factory?
If not, what puck did you use?
I understand all Ipod adapters are dealer installed, is that true?
TIA YM
