One can only wonder how many thousands of $$$ are being spent each day by MB customers on unnecessary service just because "the computer says so."
Tks. for posting. That's how they make $$$ Very interesting that the plugs and fuel filter service "disappeared". That's actually what I would want to happen too. I'll be making an appt. for my SErv. F and hopefully I have a dealer that has the knowledge, and co-operation akin to yours. Will keep everyone posted.

Tpowel2: sorry about the bill, but at least she's good for 5 yrs. and if u get a plugs/fuel filter due before that, show 'em your receipt. BTW, I'm not sure which Contis u used, but I went to Tirerack, and punched in '04E320, and I got a number of OEM Contis with the highest price being $137 each.....

So is the FSS calling for these 100,000 mile or 5 year service items because our 2003 cars are now 5 years old? I doubt it, because my FSS was calling for new spark plugs and fuel filter in November of 2006, when my car was only 3 years old.

So why would the FSS be asking for this work to be done if the manual specifically states 100,000 miles or 5 years? is it because the computer is telling it that there's something wrong with the spark plugs or fuel delivery system?

I have 50,000 miles on my car, and I do my own work, so changing the spark plugs and fuel filter doesn't bother me - I just don't want to do it if it isn't really nescessary...

I was quoted $350.00 for the fuel filter which he called a "fuel sender". Is this correct?
