Wierd problem, at about 20-30mph the car is jerking back and forth, basically speeds up and slows down on its own with me holding a gas pedal steady!

Mention DTB P-B-27.20/78 dealer will (1) check the torque converter clutch, and (2) see if glycol is present in the transmission fluid.

Don't know if it's a tranny problem, the jerking is consistant with RPM surging.
Could it be the Idle speed regulator or RMP sensor? If there is something like that on these cars. Also this does not happen very ofter, 90% of the time everything is perfect.

DTB specifically states “vehicle jolt at constant speeds or during gentle acceleration when torque converter clutch is applied > 40,000 miles”. Glycol contamination creates noticeable harsh engagement during gentle acceleration between 1200-2500 rpm, your call.

I am having the same problems, should this be covered under warranty? It has taken me around 10 trips to the MB Agent, and the chief engineer thinks it might be the clutch on my E240 W211, but cant say for sure, as he didnt really find anything wrong.

Would appreciate the help. Thanks

hey guys i went to another guy bc after going to the dealer and them not being able to find out whats wrong with my car, and the other mechanic told me that it was my mass air flow sensor and the plug and plug wires. could this be it or should i check out further bc that air sensor is 400 bucks and the plug and plugs will probably come out to be around 300-350.

Functional description of the MAF sensor: Upon engine start, a current passes through the MAF sensor, heating the wire film to a certain temperature. As air passes through the sensor, this film cools and the sensor determines how much electricity is required to keep the film up to temperature. This enables the sensor to determine how much air (in weight) is passing through at any given moment. This signal is then sent to the ECU that it then compares to a preprogrammed map to deliver fuel, and ignition spark, taking into account other engine inputs such as engine RPM and temperature. The monitor of the MAF sensor is active after a specified time after engine start and above a specified engine speed threshold.

The MB dealer should have easily identified any fault codes including the MAF sensor through DAS. Did the independent find and printout any fault codes? If so, if you paid a diagnostic fee to the MB dealer return with a copy of the fault codes and request a discounted repair to cover their initial diagnostic cost, the diagnostic cost of the independent, and better the independent quote for repair because of the error.

Did anyone find out what the issue was here or whether it was fixed? My car is surging ever so slightly during light accelerations or going up a hill. Generally when there is a slight load on the motor. Interesting enough, it seems to do it more when it's in Sport mode and less in Comfort mode, but it still does it in Comfort. I am currently using comfort mode.

Any help would be great, thanks.

I am happy to report that after draining tranny fluid, changing the filter and refilling it, the gerking I was talking about has completley gone away!!!
So I attribute my problem to old tranny fluid (about 90k). Now the car is smooth as silk.

Black,

Thank you for the reply. Interesting outcome. I will set up an appt. to do just that. My car is out of warranty so I would much rather try the tranny change, as it has to be done some time anyway, than the EGR swap and software reflash. I have been quoted about $400.00 for the EGR and software. Did you do the tranny flush yourself? Anyone else have experience with the tranny oil change and filter change? Is it difficult and how much cost is involved.

What is the original recommended tranny oil change interval? Mine has 75K on it and it hasn't been changed yet that I know of.

Thanks in advance.

For the benefit of members with 722.6 transmissions (5-speed) in warranty or with extended warranty if you experience vehicle jolt at constant speeds or during gentle acceleration when the torque converter is applied, and mileage is over 40,000 mention DTB P-B-27.20/78 AUG06. The dealer with check the torque converter clutch, verify there is no glycol in the ATF, and replace ATF/filter at no cost.

Thank's very much. I am out of warranty though. Is it difficult to change the tranny fluid and filter myself?

The above link is from an earlier model, but the only differences are that the W211 with the 722.6 5-speed AT does not have the drain for the torque converter, and our fill pipe is not as easily accessible requiring a funnel with a flexible pipe to refill the fluid.
