bmmsw8, we don't use USD here in Canada

I think the the difference is the same in the US however, because if you factor in the exchange rate - it is cheaper to buy the same car here.

We pushed our guy for $2500, but he would not budge above $2100. So I think the article is "on track" with the reality, even though the numbers maybe off slightly. After reading this, I am very happy with our deal.

2003 E320
Discounts

In talking to many dealers/brokers so far the best price that has been given is $52,000 Out The Door (including tax/licence) for:

2003 E320
Metallic Paint
E2

What do you think?

I don't know how much TTL is in CA, but seems a little high. One of the dealers that is on this forum posted that he is giving $1000 over invoice for any vehicle in stock. If that is true and he has one like yours, then it should be around $46380 + TTL, which assuming 8.25% tax and a few hundred dollars of other fees, should be around $51K or a little less. Check out the thread titled "E Discounts" and I believe there is guy named AndyLien that has posted on there. Would be great to see if the $1K over invoice is really true.

abhansali-

Thanks for the reply, these are my figures:

2003 E320 Invoice 43664.00
Destination Chrg. 665.00
E2 1442.00
Metallic 609.00
Over Invoice Chrg. 1000.00
(from your mentioned
dealer)

$47380.00
Tax 3733.00
License 401.00
-------------------------------------------
$51514.00

What about the Luxury tax to be added on the above amount?
($455.00)

If the Luxury tax is to be added to the above amount, then I believe it would be inline with the price I was quoted of $52,000 OTD.

If somehow the Lux tax is included in the dealors invoice then I would agree that my price is about $500.00 high.

What do you think?

awating your reply.

Wow, I wish that applied to Texas. I'll have to call around again and see what Houston has.

Are you sure that there is lux tax on E320 now. I had thought that it only applied to the E500 and only until the first of the year.
I am not sure, just asking.

I will probably get my car on the last day that the tax is charged...

I agree with rayscar, I live in Northern Virginia also and they gave me nothing OFF!!! The only thing i got when I picked up my E500 was 2 keychains and I demanded set of wheel locks...

------------------------
I live in the Northern VA/Washington DC area and dealers here are sticky with MSRP. No deals.
------------------------

Too bad, rayscar;-). Yeah, looks like it's by area. I entered zip code 94539 (CA) it showed $500 off. When I entered 08807 (NJ), it showed only $86 off. It's worth to check out what's carsdirector's offer in your area. It'll be a good start point to bargain with your local dealers.

Auto Luxury Tax Rate Drops
To 6% On New Vehicle Sales
Over $36,000
On January 1, 1999 the luxury tax rate fell to six percent on new vehicles with a transaction price in excess of $36,000, according to the American International Automobile Dealers Association (AIADA).

This drop is part of the luxury tax phase out signed into law on August 20, 1996 after six years of intense lobbying by AIADA. The tax rate will continue to drop one percent a year until it expires on January 1, 2003.

Depending where you look the lux tax showes different amounts...$40,000, or $36,000.

The tax is gone on Jan 1 of 2003. As of now it appears that the lux tax, 3%, is paid on the amount that is over the above mentioned amounts (pick one) based on MSRP of vehical and all factory installed options.

For those of you in Northern Virginia, it might me worth taking a ride to New Jersey. Some of the dealers haere have been rabidly agressive about winning orders, some have stuck to their guns. Three here drew the line at the $1000 -1200 range. But two went as far as offerring $3000 off, while one went all the way to invoice pricing. I'm happy to provide salesperson names if you would like.

luxury tax rates

in 2002, luxury tax is 3% of the amount over $40,000

so if the car is 61k plus ttl, one of those T's will be 3% of (61-40) namely 3% of 21k.
