CD Changer Door Won't Open!

Guys,

Have any of you had this problem? My CD Changer door (see attachment) WILL NOT open anymore. Can someone let me know if there is a a fuse I have to change? or, do I have to bring it in?

THANK YOU in advance,

PetePap

A family member stashed his wallet in ours on a trip. It is pretty easy to jamb. I pried it open with the sound of plastic gears slipping. I figured it was a goner but apparently it reset as the next day it functioned normally. I do not have a changer so I have avoided any further risk by leaving it alone. It is a pretty small electrical load. I could not find any fuse associated with it. I suspect it has some sort of high temp limit switch. I saw one on e- bay some time back and bid on it for fun. It sold for around $5 and was a new part. Wish I had bid a little more aggressively. No one here responded to my question about it. It is a pretty fragile arrangement. I imagine someone knows but I do not. I am curious, how can it hold a cd (changer or no) because it is soo shallow.

The "compartment" that is mounted in there must be of a shorter depth dimension than if it were removed and a cd changer mounted in there instead. You wouldn't want a narrow deep compartment because it would be hard to reach for small items in there that slipped inward towards the nose of the car.

If the compartment is so short, I'm sure the CD unit does not get mounted inside that compartment, but rather instead of it.

Have you updated your COMAND SW? CD Changer panel stuck is one of the many problems service disc W211589142200 should resolve.

I may not be right here, but I do not think I have COMAND. I have an 2003 and it has the tape player and no navigation. The pic I supplied was from the auto show. Does that make sense?

In your case there is comparable update for Audio50 – service disc W211589122200. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any free sources for this update - MB Dealer Net is $12. Note although the comparable COMAND SW update specifically mentions correcting “CD Changer Panel Stuck” the Audio50 does not. It is my assumption that it should correct this though - it will be a process of elimination starting with the $12 SW update.

For cost, check with KYBENZ: https://mbworld.org/forums/members/28130-kybenz.html

Took your advice and pried it open with my hands. Heard the gears slip, but they went back into place after a couple opens/closes. Everything is back to normal.

Thanks!

We were both lucky. I 've never had a car repair itself. Those M-B designers must really be smart.
