Transmission acting strange
2003 E500
I called by MB Service Manager who I've known for years, and he said that what I did was what you should to and that I could bring it in for a computer check but that it probably wouldn't recur. Since then it's never happened again, and I"ve had the car in for it's annual and last free check.
If you punch the gas abruptly and release it fast the SA says this may occur; however, I'm not going to try to cause it to happen again as car has ran fine for several thousand miles since that happened. I think it could be a software glitch in the automatic transmission electronic control box, but that's a SWAG.
I had the same problem on my E5. It turns out it was the valve control body??? Whatever that is, it was $2400 to fix. MB knows what the problem is and they don't want to pay for it. It is a known issue. If wiki knows then MB knows. Look in the manual, they built a limp home feature for when this happens.

I found the thread your looking for a couple of weeks ago. Couple of the guys with E500's were resetting there autobox memorys. I did it on my E280cdi couple of weeks ago but i can't remember exactly what the procedure was but i'll do my best to list it.
1. Insert key into ignition and turn to the on position (the one before the glow plug) .
2.Push accelerator down within 5secs and keep it there for about 15secs and then turn the key to off (do not pull out key) and only then release the accelerator.
3.Leave key inserted at the off position for 2mins before attempting to drive.
I had a problem with my 7g box where the vehicle refused to kickdown (not turbo lag!) and since i performed this procedure it has been fine.https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif
