HID Size...

Hello guys,

My friend has an 2004/3 (dont remember what year..) E500. Recently his birthday just passed (Oct. 3) so I wanted to get him something. An I know for a matter of a fact that one of his HID bulbs is going out. This is the normal low beam HID. Supposedly he took it to a dealership awhile back and they told him that the gas is leaking and it needs to be replaced. They were charging a lot for the replacement so he opted not to get it. Still having to give a birthday gift, I thought of getting him a new set of HID bulbs.
So I was wondering if you guys can help me by providing the size for the HID bulb. Additionally, I'd also appreciate if you guys can suggest a manufacturer that is great in quality and has good performance. I'm willing to spend around 150 on this gift...Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Pete

You need a pair of D2S bulbs. 4100K rating is OEM and street legal. Phillips and Osram are the best brands of HID bulbs you could get. Frick the stealerships! They'll rape you.....get them here.

I checked out this one http://www.hidplanet.com/philips5000k.html and was wondering if thats any good. Its the same size and all but instead of 4100k, its 5000k. Would you guys prefer this?

When you go higher with the kelvin rating, you lose lumens or light output. 5000K will have a more bluish tinge and will be slightly dimmer than the 4100K, but still plenty amount of light for the road. Unfortunately, HIDPlanet is out of stock on the 5000K bulbs.

Doesn't a 2003/4 car have Bi-Xenons? I guess you are referring to the fact that it has separate halogen high beams.

Why not by an OEM part from MB, never had to buy one, was it expensive at the dealer because of their service charge or was it the part price?

Thanks for the info w211 Ryda. It really helped, but I was checking out the stats under the 5000kD2S and the Luminous Flux is rates at 3200lm..the same as the 4100kD2S. So essentially, they are the same, am I mistaken?

With those ratings, then yes...they should be nearly identical except in color. 5000K will have a more bluish color.

The Highest Kelvin rating you could get is 12,000K...just make sure the bulbs are the correct model and wattage. 5000K will be fine. Check out some of our sponsors for specials on HID kits.

will do, but i think I'm still a little confused, i thought that if i put a higher wattage bulb in their, i would run the risk of blowing something or over heating the wires, or something?

or can i really just swap up for a diff bulb?

who's a good sponsor
