Is this normal?

I notice that during the day I can not read the white digital display with in the speedometer.

Has anyone noticed this to be a design flaw? At night...no issues...but the display just does not get bright enough during the day to read easily.

I turned the reset Stick on the cluster but again it only makes a differance at night.

This is driving me nuts...so much so I had to register here to ask you guys...lol

BTW...i love this car.

Be sure that the daylight sensor is working properly. The display is dimmer at night.

Not sure if you're aware, but the reset stick also doubles as an adjustment knob to dim/brighten the dash lights and instrument panel lighting. That threw me off when I first got mine. I'm assuming you already tried that, but just in case...

You should be able to read it for sure. It is supposed to be brighter during day time.

I believe the sensor is on your hood. It sits in the middle of the vent that runs across your hood.

Mine can easily be read during the day as well.

Daylight Sensor

Its probably a test for the dealership. Are the rest of the dash lights/radio bright in the day dim at night like they are supposed to be? ..or it could be the display going bad. (Ouch!)

I believe the light sensor has been in different places on different MB models but from WIS is seems like W211 had the sensor integrated with the rain sensor. Could be that cars where rain sensor has not be standard, have had the light sensor elsewhere.

In any case, the sensor on the hood on an E500 is at least monitoring sun light direction, helping the 4-zone AC work even more accurately. Not sure if this sensor would serve also other purposes, or even if some W211 cars would have had the light sensor integrated with this one on the hood.
