E-Class Out, What To Come Next?

So our E-class goes back Friday. Is it worth it to get another one, especially with the re-design coming out? Are the deals that good because I know when we got ours, we didn't really have any hook-ups but we may have some now (MVP or whatever numbers)...

Did anyone take a look at the M35/45 Sport before jumping into an E or back to an E-class?

Hi. I [think] I got a great deal. Ads were offering $599 p/mo on a non 4 matic with P1 for 39 mos with $2,000+ down and total inceptions of close to $4800. I got 39 months, $1k down ($2900 incept ttl) and $635 p month on a fully loaded 4 matic. P2, pana roof, trunk closer, iPod, wood wheel, sport, designo wood interiror (not black burl),blutooth. Overall based on my research it was a pretty good deal (beat the Audi I was looking at by $150 p/mo). Car sticker was $62k, I got it for $52k.

As for the infiniti, I looked at them carefully too. If you like German cars, you will probably not like the infinitis (or any of the Japanese lux's). While it is chock full o'goodies-more than the Benz, a little more "cushy" inside with ventilated seats, etc. The wood looks fake, the ride is bumpy and the pickup leaves alot to be desired. Take an off ramp at 35-40mph and you're in the bushes. Don't get me wrong, it's a great value, but if you're used to driving a Benz, Beemer or Audi you probably won't like it-that's been my experience. Frankly (this is just my view) the exterior is not very attractive either-the G's are much "prettier" cars. The M's also look so much like the older G's that you might as well save the dough and get a G which is a rocket.

The only car I found I liked better than the Benz was the Audi A6-problem is when you load them up they get REALLY expensive now (on lease. Sticker is actually less). I was paying $545 for an '06 fully loaded and now the exact same car is in the high $700's but it does offer alot more than the E in terms of technology.

Sorry for the ramble but I think I drove every car in this thing's class before I went with the E. I will be pissed though when the new one comes out because all of the gadgets will probably be in there and work better.

IMO rollover into another E, the quality will be like day and night – fantastic vehicle. Lease for two years with absolute minimum out of pocket overall and this will bring into a w212.

Thanks for the advice guys. The reason I brought up the M35/M45 is because my father really liked the styling of it from the inside out. And the price was favorable in our price range of affordability. I was thinking of rolling into another E350 for like 27 months or something with P2 & AMG Package.

What do you think that kind of setup will set us back per month that is?

More so, we have driven Acuras for a long time and basically gave up on it after my brother bought a TL. We basically have exhausted all of the Acura line-up. I'm expecting this Jap M35 to handle much better though since my G35 Coupe is a dream on pick-up and overall ride quality.

No offense but that's why I didn't like it-my father inlaw did.

Price range was dead on. Slightly less than the Benz. My recommendation is to give one a good test drive. A reall test drive-highway, etc. Rent one if you can (I usually do if I'm really interested in a car). You can't get a good idea with a 2 minute drive with the salesman next to you. I liked the Acura much better (RL) but didn't like that the styling was kind of boring.

Based on what you optioned out above, for 2 years sounds like it will be alot. Like in the $800's. Of course that depends where you are. I tried doing a two year lease on a similar car that you mention and it was more-around $850 a mo.

I figure 27 months would be a bit ridiculous but I couldn't get over how sleek the E-class is styled so for me, the shape wouldn't get old even with the new one on the way. We'd end up buying it anyways...

We will definitely give the M35/45 a good drive before diving into the situation. THanks all. Will let you guys know how we make out in the negotiations....

RE; Rollover to new E

From the post above; I couldn't have said it better:

IMO rollover into another E, the quality will be like day and night – fantastic vehicle. Going from a (reliable) 05 to an 07 was a huge improvement for me.

I would however consider doing a 3 year lease, and wait for for the 2nd year of W-212 though, remembering the 2003 W211 1st model year issues....

Thought you were concerned about the lease cost for two years as $800+ was thrown out and seemed to be the norm. Just another avenue to explore to obtain the cheapest cost or price match from the dealer, if of course your ultimate goal is to get into the w212 eventually.

Bad M, Bad

I actually bought an M35 with everything. In less than 6 months I was in an E350. I thought it was nice the first few weeks, but I hated the engine "roar". No matter what I told myself, the wood looked contact paper. And the huge buttons look silly, not high tech.

I have never unloaded a car so quickly or hated one so much. That was 18 months ago and I still love my E350 as much as the day I drove it off the lot. It will be an easy wait for W212.

Drive M35/45 and give us feedback. I just sat in it and really liked interior, however I didn't drive. I've seen M45 on freeway yesterday. This car looks awesome and reminded me Benz. It acceleretated very fast and smooth. I really wanthed the car. However I want to take a try of new Jaguar XF. I'm also anticipating W212, however I should get a new car a little faster than it will be available. Maybe lease STS for 2 years?

Wow, that's an insane amount off 55Fanatic!! I'm going back this Saturday to Mercedes to discuss the E350 P2 w/AMG package. My dad will only got for it if we can get it around 500/month for like 27-36 months. My mom doesn't want another E-class as she thought the rear space was too small as my parents love to entertain people. I'm Indian so thats no shocker!!

I will test drive the M35 Sport this weekend as well since they are next door and give you guys the update. It seems that we will get a substantial amount off on a M35 Sport (couldn't care for HP gain by getting a M45 sport, since it'll be my mom's car really)

Keep the advice coming!!!!

That's EXACTLY what I felt. The controls for the screen caused me to have to reach up and over to get to, engine made alot of noise but didn't really move anywhere quickly.

I was wondering that myself. I tired to get a 2 year lease (24/27) and the numbers were coming back $200+ over a 39 month and wouldn't budge. I initially thought it would be cheaper since the car would have a better residual.

I am definitely thinking the same but guys we don't know much he put down. His car is cheaper than my G35 Coupe, where for nothing down, 36 months 12K/year, I'm paying $550/month...

More power to 55Fanatic but nevertheless, he gives me hope for a doable and affordable deal.

By the way, I love my GL450, I ripped a Cayenne S to shreds! MB GL450 RULES!!!!

What about the 07/08 make them like night and day over the earlier W211's? I am interested in a W211. Should I hold out for an '07 or later?

“IMO” yes MY07, if you want a used 211 as early as possible and as close to bullet proof as possible for the most part.

One big difference beginning with MY '07 was the elimination of the Sensotronic Braking System (SBC) or braking by wire - MB went back to the tried and true vacuum boosted system for the W211 E.

I had the SBC on an '04 SL500 and my folks have an '05 E500 4matic wagon with it and the 'feel' after depressing the brake pedal is night and day - not to mention the several manufacturer's recalls on the system for both cars due to the SBC.

I would get an '07/08 if you have the patience to wait for it.

I test drove an M45 before deciding on getting the E-class and the truth of the matter is, while it is a very good car, I am used to driving German cars and the Japanese cars just 'feel' different. The M45's engine made very nice power and the gadgets available were certainly more up to date compared to what is an aging and soon to be replaced W211 platform. But the driving experience left much to be desired.

Granted, if I wanted the most sporting feel behind the wheel, the BMW 5-series/M5 would've been the better choice than the E63 - but the BMW's stying inside and out have driven me away from the marque for the last few years.

After test driving the M45, I got out of it and felt nothing...and that's when I knew the Infiniti was not for me. They build very nice automobiles, but just not ones I would want to have a long term relationship with...
