Need Help Lowering Question

alright heres the deal. i lowered my car via STAR. only problem was that the front sat real low but the back was up way too high. the back wouldnt go lower than what the computer would go. anyways. i went back to my mechanic who lowered it for me and he hired the front to match the rear. i wanted him to set it back to stock but he said that there was no button for it. i was wondering what i should do. i heard that i could buy the stabilzer links from the s class and drop the front and for the back i can bend the bracket till it sits flush with my tires. the problem now occurs that if i do the link and bend the bracket is the computer going to recognize this or will it just keep the settings that was put in from the STAR machine.

What I did to lower the rear was to move the sensor. You'll need to notch out the hole that the sensor is secured into in order for you to move the sensor. Moving it a little moves the car a lot.

i already did that in the back but it still sat high. but my question was since i lowered it via STAR and moved the sensor and the washers in the back, will the car still only take the STAR input over moving the sensor more or anything like that? thanks again tbone

Look into

www.adjustableairride.com

Many people have used this product with no complaints. They sell replacement front and rear links. I wanna say they're $250.00 or something like that. Search the forum, someone just put these on his car last week and liked the results.

Adjustable Air Ride Links

I just put the adjustable air ride links on a week ago and I couldn't be more pleased with the set up. The front has two links that replace the OEM ones and you trick the car into thinking it's sitting higher than it really is by twisting the adjustable links so they are actually longer than the fixed OEM ones. The front takes about 10 minutes to change out. The rear has one link which is above the differential...a little tough to get to but after doing it once, I actually lowered mine too much in the back so I got back under it and adjusted it a few mm's on the threaded link and it brought it back up to where I wanted it. For the money and after researching it on this forum I think this is one of the best ways to accomplish what you are looking to do.

You can always lower your car more than what STAR has already done. Some people's cars have not come out as low as they liked after STAR, and they put some washers on.

I agree with the others who changed out the links. I bought my car Dec. '02, when it 1st came out, and there was nothing available on the market to lower this car, so I had custom links made for the front, and moved the sensor in the rear. Nowadays, there are so many, easier options.

Planning on purchasing an E-Class in the near future and I have a quick question for you all. Does the 500 model only come with the air suspension where as the only way to lower a 300 model is to change out for a lower spring due to it not having an air suspension?

Another quick question by choosing the link method how far of a drop can you get? Does the actual tire set in the wheel well?

Thanks

From my understanding, all 500s came with Airmatic. For all the models not equipped with Airmatic, you will have to use conventional methods of lowering, such as springs.

With links, you can get a pretty low drop. You can sit the wheel well right above the tire as well as tuck rim.

In the US, even the E350 AMG Sport (321) or Regular Sport (333) doesn't come with Airmatic.
