Does Anyone here own a BMW 740il...

I was just wondering if anyone here owns a 2000 or 2001 BMW 740il, before the more current bangle redesign in 2002. I have always liked the look of them and I am thinking about getting a nice used one. Is it a bad idea? What took look out for? Just thought I would ask.

Thanks!

I myself am a huge fan of that design.

If you're serious about buying one, this is the wrong place to ask whether its a bad idea. If you want to know about issues with it, the BMW forum would be ideal.

911's and beyond
if your going to go e38 740il go for the 740i and go sport 2000+ was the best and more reliable of the bunch from 95 on, it has the wide screen nav the sport wheels 18" m parellels a Great 4.4l engine (which is quite a Beast) with all bugs fixed from previous years and has the updated front lights and rear euro lights it Thats my opinion.

BMW 7-series are considered "mechanics" cars.

That is, the reason they're so cheap on the used market is that they're EXTREMELY expensive to maintain. Guys getting their parts wholesale, and having a shop to work in and BMW service training make the most likely owners.

MB, BMW
bmw 7 series are no more expensive to maintain than MB S-class or E-class cars. for one 7 series do not have airmatics that die on you, or rust problems. u need to change out the radiator/h2o pump/thermostat every 50k miles or so.
