does 2007-8 E-class have "auto-hold" transmission? (m)

one feature i'm most looking forward to in my next car is not distronic, pano roof, nav or keyless go. but it is "auto hold" transmission control where you do not have to hold the brake pedal at a traffic light waiting. when u come to a stop, you press a button and car will automatically apply the parking brake. tap the gas, and off you go. do E-class cars have this feature..??

How long are the red lights in Ann Arbor that you want this feature?

Honestly, once you have it, you notice there are no traffic lights where you would not use it.

Seems to be a US legislation issue, it has been in Europe from W211 SBC and the W221 equally as the face lifted W211 without SBC have it.

Had a look at W221 DAS and it appears that the feature is hidden by SCN coding and I would expect it being pretty difficult to have it activated on cars that did not have it active from the factory.

Is that feature designed for continuous use at traffic lights? I have an electronic parking brake button on my Land Rover which auto-releases when you press the accelerator, but i dont think it's technically designed for "driving" use.

The hold function does not operate the parking brake but the main brakes. The main brakes certainly are designed to be used continuously (at traffic lights or so), equally as the tranny can be on drive. Nothing different here from the case of the driver pressing the brake.

On my W221 the tranny would go to neutral if I operated the parking brake. That would mean a lot of "moving parts", both the hand brake and the tranny. Not sure if that would really cause some harm but certainly different from the hold function.

On the other hand, new VWs with DSG (basically manual tranny with dual clutches that are electronically controlled, is using the electronic parking brake to keep the car stationary at traffic lights (since it does not have a torque converter and cannot slide the clutch that long. Perhaps it would be OK to use the parking brake on other cars too, this frequently.

I think European edition always had this feature. However American standards are different, so it is against the law to have such thing. What I do, just switch to neutral and apply parking barakes.
