Engine noise ?

Just got my 2004 E320 4matics wagon. Overall, like it very much. One thing kind of annoying is that, when slowing down from highway speed to local, the engine sounds loud as if still at high speed, even though the RPM shows lower than 1000. That seems to go away after a couple of stops.

Any ideas ?

Thanks.

That's an odd issue, I never experience anything like that. Did you have the A/C on? Sometimes I get a whirring sounds coming from the engine when I use the A/C and its normal.

No, A/C was off.

It's kind of weird. Cold start is fine. Just after some accelerations. It seems to me that it's running in low gear and therefore high RPM. But RPM was actually below 1000 at low speed.

Is there an electric fan or something that run once engine get hot ?

I have a different noise issue with my brand new euro spec '08 E280. Engine has that clanking noise when idling, like the sound of a fan hitting something. It's very clear inside the car with windows closed and no radio. Doesn't matter if engine is warm or cold. Any ideas?

That's strange, I would take it to the dealer to get it service....
