Tire pressure monitor system question........

OK, new to this board as I just bought a nice used 03 E500 over the weekend. I have been posting on the W210 board awhile as I still have my E420 too...........

Anyway, the tire pressure monitor system has a fault. The guy I bought the car from said it just started the other day but couldnt get it fixed in time for our deal. He mentioned that it wasnt a real big problem. Any ideas or suggestions as to where I start with my diagnosis? Dont know which wheel it is..............

Thanks in advance.

Jeff

Could you be more specific with the fault. Is it indicating a malfunction at the instrument cluster? If yes, what does it report?

It could be the control unit, don't know details but there is and advice to change the control unit in some cases.

One option would be one or more sensors having a low battery issue.

Does it initialise properly? Does it still show tyre pressures properly?

I just had to replace 3 of the 4 sensors. They have a battery life on them and can be tested...$1200 installed

This car was a MY 2003 one, it would use Beru sensors instead of Siemens. They cannot cost $1200 in the US, they do not cost that even here. If you don't get them at a lower price, buy from an Audi or Ferrari shop, they use the exact same sensors on some models. At my Audi dealer the price was a bit less than one half of that of the MB shop, but our MB shops are specifically expensive. Independent parts shops sell these Beru devices at almost one half of the Audi price!

Of course if the issue was not on the sensors, the cost could be different. Not sure if csumt was referring to the control unit price.

Can you confirm this would be the Beru sensors' price?
