Can a E500 kill a stock Mazdaspeed3 ?
My friend has a CTS-V and the other has a Mazdaspeed 3, they have raced from a 5 mph roll and the CTS-V can only get a carlenth max on on him. On the highway the Mazda is the faster car some how, I talked to the owner of the mazda and he says he can beat 350Z's, G35 and runs head to head from a roll with STI's. I would have thought that CTS-V would hand his *** but he has trouble. He wants to try my car out next time, where do I stand do you guys think I have a chance?

Not sure what your E500's numbers are, but online I find that a stock Mazdaspeed3 does:
"At the drag strip, we recorded a 0-60 time of 5.9 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 14.2 seconds at 100 mph" That was the 4 door wagon.
The E550, for instance, is a lot quicker than that (many reports of 4.8-5.2 0-60 and quarter miles around 13.2-13.8). I thought the CTS-V was even faster still (on paper anyway).
At these sub six second 0-60 times a lot of it is the driver reaction time. How quickly does the driver hit the gas? What shift mode are you in? What gear are you in when you hit the gas? If stopped, were you brake torquing, etc?

FWIW..
My stock 2004 E500 with the 7speed tranny and heavy 19" wheels ran a 14.2@99mph just a month ago. It was about 97* and humid. Not sure what the numbers are for a 2003 E500 with the 5sp are.
I think Road and Track rates the 7 speed E500;s with a 0-60 of 5.7 and a 1/4 mile of 14.1.
If Joelaff's findings are correct, it will come down to the driver as the cars are about dead even.
An E550 with eat it for lunch all day.

2003 E500 with the 5 speed was 5.9 sec 0-60 - 14.4 sec 98.8 mph in the quarter. Have not seen tests with 7 speed however 2006 CLS 500 did 5.4 0-60 and 14 flat and 100 in the quarter. 7 speed E500 should equal CLS stats.

RE: MazdaSpeed3
Car & Driver tested the 03 E500 when it first came out in Fall of 02, and got a 0-60 of 5.8 and 1/4 mile of 14.3@98 mph. Probably equally relavant: their 5-60 "Street Start" time was 6.1.
The MazdaSpeed 3 is a quick little rice burner, probably the best factory packaged in it's class right now. I roasted one a couple of times a few weeks back in my JEEP, but my truck is well into the 12's in the 1/4 mile.
I would think that your 03 would be neck and neck with the Mazda, assuming it is in a good state of tune, driver skills, etc.
Have fun but don't get caught!

There is more to racing than 1/4 mile and 14 seconds. What fun is a straight line that only requires a big motor and one quick reaction from the driver to hit the gas. Take the MAZDASPEED 3 and an E500 to a road course, the Mazda would woop it's a**.

On a course like that it would probably beat my E550 too, but at the end of the day I am driving a Benz riding in luxury, and he is driving a rattling Mazda, with an engine that sounds more like a vacuum cleaner (OK, it's Hondas that sound like vacuums, but Mazdas are getting close).

BMW FTW
From my experience an E350 stays with a 350z and should be mazda 3 territory also.. An E500 should have no trouble walking it.. However I think it would be a fun race for an E500 vs an E350. I know someone posted a CLK 55 vs CLK 500 video and the AMG car didnt pull much at all despite having 50 more HP.

I agree. Some people just can't help spewing their racist xenophobia. We can learn a lot from Japanese culture, values, and productivity. It's interesting to see the superiority some insecure people feel from their possession of certain material goods. If you are going to bring down a car, do it based on merit; not on narrow minded preconceptions of a very limited understanding of the world in which we live. Judging from the typos of the subsequent post I take it we are dealing with someone of either very low intelligence, education, or both.

the E350 is not soo close in real life... I smoked a guy with a E350 Sedan.... I walked away from him and he had every intent on beating me as he was the one who jumped the light first.... my 05 is very very quick all the way through the range... but! you pay on the backside... 19.5 mpg @ 76mph average... and 9.5mpg in NYC city driving...

911's and beyond
the Ultimate answer is NO, the mazda runs apx 13.9 while a good run in an e500 is apx 14.2-14.4. I will be running my E500 on the 8th at Sac raceway im curious to see my #s because I take g35c and 350z 1/2 car from the dig and on the Fwy. and those both run in the 13 range. (slightly slightly slightly modded) dual magnaflows X pipe modified airbox thermotec wrap KNs and next week superchip ECU.

Yes, I think a Mazdaspeed 3 can kill your E500 stock for stock.

Test was a 2003 E500 with a 5 speed auto. Never seen test on E500 7 speed but the new trans might reduce 0-60 by about .5 sec. As noted above 2006 CLS with same engine and 7 speed did 5.4 to 60 - with about 200 lbs more weight. IMO a E500 with either a 5 or 7 speed would likely outrun a stock Mazdaspeed 3 on the street from 0-100, 90% of the time, for 90% of the drivers. In my old street racing days most races were decided by a missed shift or quality of the launch. A really talented Mazda driver with a good launch could out run E500 with consistency but those kind of drivers are few and far between - even though I realize that we all feel we are in the top 0.01%.
