motion sensor

I just got my E320 and I have a couple of questions. Is there an internal motion sensor in the U.S. version of the car? Also, is there suppose to be a rubber insert for my ashtray and a manual crank for the moonroof?

The car should have come with a rubber mat (mine was in the glovebox) that will cover the floor of the ashtray slot once you remove the ashtray. A VERY nice touch. Since I don't smoke and have no use for the ashtray, I now have a rather large additional covered storage area large enough to hold a large pair of sunglasses and some other assorted items out of sight.

The crank is next to the tool kit by the spare tire and can be used to manually crank the sunroof if the motor fails.

I've read about the interior motions sensor but don't think we have it in the US, not completely certain. My car has quite a few different swtiched mounted on the ceiling (I have a panorama roof).

nope, we dont have it, i opened all the windows and the moon roof, and just shaked around while the alarm was on, but one thing i saw that was wierd was that....in the new E, if you get the HK system, there are 12 speakers......7 in the front and 5 in the back....there are two right by each side mirrors, one speaker on the front doors....that makes 4...one speaker by the foor brake, that makes 5, one more like that speaker on the passenger side, that makes 6, but the wierd thing is that, on the overhead panel, it seems like there are two speakers, but it is only 1! the speaker is on the side of the passenger, and the other one is just for show, then there are 5 more in the back, it looks like a speaker, but has no use at all

Motion Sensor

The only motion sensor that activates is when 'someone attempts to raise the vehicle' (p.82 of the Manual).

There is no speaker, for the sound system in the overhead panel. There are various locations for microphones and places where warning tones emit but these don't have anything to do with the sound system, HK or otherwise.

thanks for the replies guys. i'm gonna have to contact my dealer about the ashtray mat. the motion sensor for the alarm was mentioned in the online manual but i think that's only for the european models. my car only has a blank button where the on/off switch for themotion sensor is suppose to be. i'm also wondering where the 12 speakers are in the HK system. i guess I'll take their word for it.

I got this from a European site, if I remember correctly. It was back in September when I was doing research.

OK boys and girls...lets see how we can all count together up to 12.

1-center fill speaker in the center air diffuser grill above the main center A/C vents
3-speakers for the front left seat, a tweeter just inside the side view mirror, a midrange down low just in front of the door and a woofer/main driver in the door panel itself
3-same for the front right seat
1-speaker in left rear door
1-speaker in right rear door
1-subwoofer in the rear windowsill
1-left fill speaker in the rear windowsill
1-right fill speaker in the rear windowsill

TOTAL = 12

VIOLA.

u said one in the windowsill, are you talking about the long looking speaker behind the rear head rests?

Wish I had my car to go look, but they're still waiting on the engine mounts. I'm headed to Hawaii for a while, so hopefully they'll be finished when I return.

The first picture I posted was from the U.K. site. Here's one from the Japanese site. Still, could be different for U.S., but Barney seems to have them all accounted for.

bmms8 the long oval grill behind the rear head rests is a little misleading. If you look from inside the trunk, you can see the large round subwoofer which doesn't correspond the the grill openning - for frequencies that low it isn't necessary so they went for the aesthetics. The two smaller side fill speakers also come through that long oval grill but are harder to see.

For the MadMan, I never was to good at foreign languages!

And for the picture from the Japan site, it shows 2 speakers in each of the doors, front and rear. I only see one in each rear door and 3 for each front seat though not all in the actual door. I also read something somewhere about tweeters for the rear seats but don't think they exist.

Lastly, the booklets on the sound system that came with the car make absolutely no mentinon of whether it is for the standard or HK system. In fact, how can you even tell for sure which you have? Does the standard have fewer speakers? I remember on my Lexus, the words Nakamichi Premium Sound were written write on the control panel and I've seen that same type of thing in a lot of other vehicles.

barney, the regular audio system has 10 speakers, and if you go scroll in the system, you can set the system to logic 7, or other stuff

This is a picture of the rear door (E320). It does look like the smaller circle is a tweeter, doesn't it? Perhaps different countries have different configurations of speakers.

I also peeked under the rear deck and found the big center speaker but can't seem to find the two smaller side fill speakers.

I wonder ...

Plus 7 in front, as Barney had counted, makes 12.

So, there!

bmms8,

I know I sound dumb here, working for an MB dealer. Do you know if I can set the ambient lighting for both the front and rear of the cabin thru the multifunction steering controls.

Its seems that the steering wheel controls can only control the front one and the rear ambient light has to be adjusted manually

hey, yeah, you have to go on the multifunction steering wheel, the way you turn off the rear lighting i believe is just by holding the dim part, and for the front go on your steering wheel, and scroll through until it says settings, or reset, and it tells you how to reset everything, thn scroll through there and go to lighting, and turn off ambient lighting, i hope i made sense
