First MB I've owned so I can't pretend to know a lot about the old ones. But, this is the first E Class that appealed to me. So, I guess you can say that I vote for the new 'issue'.

I think the new E's interior is "very" nicely built and very plush, especially if you have the full leather interior.
We are coming out of an S500 and just recently took a look at a 2003 S500 with the interior upgrade (I was really curious to see how it came out). My question is, what interior upgrade? The door handles are leather covered now and the wood has a chrome line going across the top like the new E, thats all I noticed along with some different switchgear.
I was thrilled to see that the interior of the updated S500 didn't look any better than the Eclass......the dash, center console are still plastic (not leather covered).

The nappa leather I ordered is very very soft and the side leather is also really plush and soft - you can't feel it from a picture but it looks just like the designo picture but in anthracite.. It really makes my dad's S class leather look like crap

if you're talking about the 'material' used by MB, i think they did a lot of cost savings on the new w211 and used inferior material compared to the w210.
couple of examples: notice the entry area of the car, where the door shuts, near the door sills area. the w211 is covered in cloth/felt material...good luck to all of you with light colored interiors...lots of wear & tear and cleanings. look at the vanity mirrors and the overhead sunshade piece; also covered in cloth type of material prone to dirt, discoloration. the center console around the climate controls and radio is now mostly plastic instead of wood. the 2 front seat-belt buckles are snug against the center arm rest that it is difficult to put on your seatbelt. once again, the side of the center arm rest is covered with a cloth material and prone to heavy rubbing...
the chairs and leather are definitely better and the overall interior is more modern and looks very nice, but the 'materials' that went into it seem to be more for the reason of cost savings than anything else...

I really like this car and it's definately better looking inside but as far as materials go I agree with M Brabus... I can;t believe MB put cloth all around the sills and "low lying" areas around doors where your feet are going in and out of... what were they thinking?

Has anybody applied any protectant to the carpet on the door sills? I was thinking of using Scotchguard but the label says not to use on carpets. Any other products out there to protect the carpet?

people said that scotchgard or whatever isnt good at all, its very cheap, rays try www.leaterique.com it is the best out there, it takes a very long time to do, but the results are good, but zaino has z-9 and z-10, both together is less than 20 bucks, and it is mre worth it then scotchgard...our dealer offered us 225 bucks for scotchgard.......and it costs less than 10 bucks in stores, and you can do a better job...but try zaino or leatherique
