They inadvertently did us a lot of good. Ralph Nagger would be spinning in his grave if he had not lived for so long. These crusaders of green envy automobile joy-killers wanted to elimintate big block engines by putting in power robbing devices in 1969, unrealistic for the time emission regulations and almost succeeded.

Fast forward to 1985. Ronald W. Reagan was President and the first high output Ford Mustang Cobra GT returned with a twin choke carburettor and 210 horses. I rushed out and bought one, chopped off the exhaust, put in a free-flow exhaust system, aluminum intake and quick shifter and I rocked!!

With the high technology revolution, ECUs in cars can be bypassed with tuning boxes and big block engines are again available under the guidance of President "W" and his friendly oil company friends.

Dread to think what can happen if Mrs. B J Bill and her greenies sit in the White House. Only Federal officials can drive cars. Everyone else ride bicycles.

RE: E550 Engine Mods

I think the M273 engine is a pretty close to perfect match for the W211 chassis, and am not at all inclined to mod it. Mine actually has traction challenges in 1st gear on cold days if one is not gentle with the throttle.

I don't race my 550, but have trounced several costly 2 seat sports cars as well as far more expensive sedans; I embarrased a C6 Corvette pilot big time last week in the highway, twice.

I'm as much of a power junky as anyone, but I think MB got the E550 pretty much right out of the box; I would leave it alone and enjoy the car. Just my opinion.

Americans want things bigger and better. More powerful. On a scale of 10 they want to dial to 15 and that is the right attitude. Your European cousins think it is poor taste but you know what? They are just jealous.

Soup it up to at least 430 bhp, the power of the V-10 Audi S6!

On second thoughts, may be 382 bhp is plenty.

Carlsson has a package, ups the power to 440hp. No such thing as
"too much horsepower"
