Just a thought on our transmission?

As many of us know our car prone to leak coolant into our transmission fluid.

My thought is since my car will be out of warranty soon (basic is gone and major component going Jan 08) should I add an external trans oil cooler and bypass the one on the radiator?

Do you have a Valeo radiator? If not, I would not install any external cooler (but it is your choice, .I would not pay your tranny re-build if it fails after all).

Where in Canada do you live? The water cooler has the advantage that it also warms up the tranny more quickly when it is cold.

Does the external cooler have a by-pass that it would not cool the tranny at cold weather?

Not sure if its a Valeo or not but my car is an early build (late 02) and the reason I ask is after reading a lot of post mentioned that the coolant was leak into the trans fluid and wants to know if this will prevent the potential problem.

What should I look for to verify if this's a Valeo and what about the by-pass you just mentioned?

I am in Toronto, Canada and in winter time we can have down to minus 10 to 15 celcius.

Is warming up the trans fluid important?

Its a good thought. BUT I would think the ext. cooler would be smaller, and I don't know if it would be effective enough.

Also, you asked how to find out if you have a Valeo? I know for sure that there is an answer in the C32 section. The "valeo" brand is written on the rad. but you have to look at the fan shroud at a peculiar angle etc. (Also I don't know if the C32 used the same rad), so that check may not be valid for the 211, but its something. Good luck!

Also, during my research on C32's an informative member told me its good to keep an eye on the coolant cap. And before buying a C32, BEFORE starting the car for the very first time, ck. it. If its oily, u've got a problem. I would imagine the same ck. is valid for the 211.

You can monitor the cap from time-time. But its a simple check, and it does not mean there is no contamination. But its something.

This photo should show the construction of the problematic Valeo radiator build. The crimping method should be different on other radiators.
