Brake Question

Ok guys, I am going to admit that I do not know how to change my own brakes. After last time I went to the dealer for new brakes and rotors, I had to take out a second mortgage to pay for the bill.

So now my brakes are squeaking when I press them, and I want to check if the pads are worn down so I can see if I need to replace them.

Thant being said, what is the easiest way to check and see if your brake pads need replacing? I DO NOT want to let it go too far and have to replace the rotors as well.

Thanks!
Pete

The pads have a sensor that is suppose to activate when 70 percent or more of the pad material has worn and an indicator light will illuminate telling you to check the brakes. Did the light come on the last time you needed brakes? Sometimes when the car is being serviced the mechanic may indicate that the pads will need to be replaced thought the light has not come on. I've only had the rear pads replaced on my car (first car i've owned where the rears wear faster). There may not be sensors on each wheel. Its pretty easy to check with a flash light...

PetePap, here is a link to the DIY thread on this. You probably have seen it.

I am working on the same thing. I got squeaking at certain brake pressure so its time. I put up another thread to see what aftermarket options people have done but stock MB is good for me too. P.S. love the desk.
