2008 Nav Disk
Just picked up the new, reworked, Nav disk from my dealer. Labeled 2008, and it says Version 7 after the part number. Doesn't seem to have the problems with HOV lanes as did the 2007.1 disk. Anyone else tested out this version yet?

Forumid, how did you get notice to go pick up the disk? I called Navteq who told me to call the dealer. I called the SA at the dealer (who mailed the card to Navteq) and I was told by him the disk is being mailed to me directly by MB. What's up with that???

The disk can be ordered online from navteq.com. Just a heads up for those with MY 2005 and prior: a firmware update to the computer may be necessary. Unfortunately learned about this after the fact but the process takes only a few minutes at the dealer.

What happened before you had the firmware update? Did the system just not work at all or what?

It was a gratis goodwill update directly from my dealer from the 2006.1 disk--I didn't go through Navteq at all. Hope this helps.

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of the Navigation System with Navi Database DVD Part Number BQ646 0229 only having any of the conditions below, this may be due to specified lane attribute handling in the Navigation System. Due to this handling, the system may recommend routing which avoids parts of the highway based on time/access restricted areas, such as High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lanes. Should this routing error occurs, install Navigation DVD BQ646 0232

I walked into my dealer in Northern California & swapped the defective Nav DVD (version 2007.1) and received the 2008 version that fixed the routing issue with high occupancy/time restricted that occurred in 2007.1
Should not cost anything.

I did notice that sometimes (not always) she still announces "Warning! Time-restricted traffic" when a carpool lane begins, but she doesn't demand you get off anymore. The 2007 disk exhibited major HOV-phobia, but Gypsy's therapist is obviously working through it with her.

Truth be told there isn't much of a difference between yours & the new one, but they're map makers and can't ignore new streets, so they appear in later disks. I won't change mine untill I repeatedly can't enter (new) streets, or I can't find my way while driving with the nav on. I use the Nav as a general guide to new destinations. but alter my route if highway signs show me another way that seems logical. (As we know, the Nav route is not always the most intuitive or direct.) ...so as long as its dependable & user friendly for me, whatever came in the car stays.

You should at least get a 2006.2 via a TSB campaign. It's needed to fix the firmware to allow your COMAND to read later (2007.1 and 2008) disks. At least that was the case for the S-class COMAND that uses the same disk. I'd assume it's the same COMAND with the same problem. The 2006.2 reflash also improves the routing a bit. I'd enquire about this and then spring for the $199 for the 2008 (232) disk because of the expanded POI database.

I got mine today. Gypsy (the little woman inside my COMAND) is no longer so afraid of carpool lanes and will allow me to get on highways again. It's very cool to have new maps finally. I've been using the 2006 disk since August because that 2007 disk was totally useless.

Nav disk 2008 Glitches?
So I've had my 2008 Nav disk about a month now. Seems to work OK, except under the following condition: when I elect to follow a route different from the calculated, the routing software often directs me to re-route using 3 right turns and a left instead of the more direct U-turn; also, once again during a re-route, the software sometimes misses the most obvious and direct re-route and sends me through a zig-zag of left and right turns that often requires me to make multiple turns in the opposite direction as opposed to a single turn in the proper direction. Has anyone else noticed this? Shoulda just kept my 2006.1.
