I stand corrected... Carrier Bars is the proper MB speak... but for ebay.. cross bars works better... so I had a carry over moment.
my hopes were that somebody might be cruising the normal posts and might have been sparked into selling those old dusty "carrier bars" ...
but alas, I bought the new Thule 450R Rapid Crossroad ... it has the new oval shaped "cross bars" (that is thule speak for "carrier bars"). the system looks a little bit lower profile than the MB version....

FYI, the w210 cross bars fit on a w211 wagon, but are much lower profile. They are on the same plane as the existing roof rails. The new w211 carrier bars are a few inches taller since they sit on top of the roof rails.

hecdog,
based on an earlier post of yours.... I bought a set of w210 "carrier bars" for my car.... they really don't fit welll enough to take a chance using them.. they also would scratch the hell out of the rails.
the w210 bars could possibly be modified (grinding down the inner edge of the clamp and changing the the screw down assembly..) but it woul never be trustworthy enough for any real weight... (I need to carry a roof carrier and wood...the bars will only be mounted during those times)
albeit the lure of a low and sexy profile has cost me $110 from Ebay.. I now have a pair of w210 "carrier bars" that I will sell in the classified section or resell on ebay listed under "cross bars"![Wink](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
(the profile of the clamp is totally wrong for the cross section profile of the rail...)
the new thule system doesn't look as bad as the massive w211 "carrier bar" system.
glad it worked for your....

Oops. Sorry to cause you the trouble. Mine work great and I've used them for heavy stuff like wood as well. However, we usually have our Thule rack up there. No scratches for me.
Again, sorry, I guess you never know. Perhaps our roof rails are different or the cross bars you got are slightly different than mine.

Hecdog... no worries on the bars.
here are pics for the interested.... clearly, the thule doesn't look as good as the w210 bars would have.... but I just didn't feel the bracket grabbed enough of the bar to carry the kinds of things I do.
by the way.. the Thule bars will whistle ever so slightly... but all in all very good products.
the w210 versions are up on ebay.

your 210 bars look different than mine. Mine are all black and extend a little further. They're spring-loaded, so they contract a bit to allow for installation.
THose Thules look good thoguh. We bought the Thule Atlantis 1600 cargo box and really love it. Installs in about 30 seconds, no lie.

I think that these are just a little faded... they do extend out more.
I am going to buy the Spirit box from Thule... it is wide, flat, but still holds a ton of stuff
+++ the silver is close to my color!!.

Sweet!
BTW, mine don't have the silver/metal thumbscrew and the clamps are different in shape. I'll post pics later, though I know it's a mute point.
You're goiing to love the ease of installation on that cargo box. Mine has the same dual hinge and quick install as the Spirit box. We looked at that one as well.

I took the cross bars from my W210 and tried it on my W211 and found that it only goes up 2/5 from the back. It appears that the rack on the W211 gets wider towards the front.
I have the two cross bars currently installed as far forward and as far back as possible (arrows point to each).

The cross bar is a Mercedes Benz part and worked well on my old
w210 (I no longer have it). It has the MB star logo on each clamping screw/dial and it is spring loaded for variable length... but apparently not long enough. I would love to use this cross bar because it is low profile and matches the rack black. I'll use it for skis and in the future, for bikes. Is there some way to extend on the other side of the spring load?

I think the cross bars you had were for the W124.
The cross bars for the W210 have a black plastic clamp, not chrome.

THE BARS YOU HAVE ARE FOR W124 AND WILL NOT WORK. THE W210 WILL WORK ON 2004 AND UP BY MOVING THE END(S) ON THE CROSSBAR. REMOVE THE ROLL PIN THAT SECURES THE END TO THE CROSSBAR, REPOSITION IT FURTHER OUT, REDRILL A NEW HOLE FOR THE ROLL PIN, AND INSTALL A NEW ROLL PIN TO SECURE THE END IN IT'S NEW POSITION. YOU CAN REMOVE THE ROLL PIN BY USING A BODY SHOP DENT PULLER. OR BY THREADING A SHEET METAL SCREW INTO THE ROLL PIN AND THEN PULLING IT OUT USING PLIERS, VISE GRIPS, ETC. I'VE DONE THIS FOR THE 2005 E500 4MATIC, 2007 E63, AND THE 2008 E350 4MATIC THAT I CURRENTLY OWN.

blkamgsl55, thanks for the tip on removing the roll pin!
Part number on the bar is:
210 040 04 18
Taking out the roll pin was extremely hard. I hammered in a sheet metal screw and pulled it with a crowbar. Used an old sheet to protect the cross bar from being scratched by the crow bar.
Anyway, here are pictures with the cross bar attached.

Sorry for the WAAAAAY late reply. But I'm impressed by your customization. Mine must have had that done somehow because it rests in the same position as your new pics.
