Got my E Back Today

My service saga ended well today. I'm not sure if my somewhat vociferous call to MBUSA early last week ("can you PLEASE explain why MBUSA doesn't stock a replacement transmission for an E550 in the USA?") regarding lack of parts availability helped, but I got my E back with a new transmission "specially shipped from Germany" in 13 calendar days. The internal costs associated with the 3 pages of tests/labor tasks/software updates/software loads and of course the parts/shipping from Germany must have wiped out a significant percentage of the profit MBUSA made on my car.

The above statements notwithstanding, the quality of the service work is excellent; car drives well, shifts smoothly again, and one can't visually tell that the work was done at all. The dealer further did their best to accomodate by leaving my car on the lift for pretty much the entire time awaiting the transmission, and fully detailed the car before I picked it up. About the only negative is that I am banished to "C" shifting mode for the next 500 miles to break in the new transmission....one could of course have much worse problems.

I do hope this was a one time thing ....the 550 had been pretty much flawless before this incident....and replacement of the transmission pretty much came out of nowhere....I guess my confidence will build again as time goes on.

Sounds like you made out well, other than the inconvenience.
Were you stuck in a C - CLass for the 2 weeks? Just curious...

Re: C-Class

Yes, I was provided with a black/black C240 service loaner for the entire 13 days. I actually came to like it for around town commuting purposes, it was also easy on fuel; however it had absolutely no highway passing power.

In town commuting prowess notwithstanding, I was not at all hesitant to turn it in and reclaim my 550.
