NHTSA Bulletin:
Make : MERCEDES BENZ Model : E211 Year : 2007
Manufacturer : MERCEDES-BENZ USA, LLC.
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 08V006000 Mfr's Report Date : DEC 19, 2007
Component: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE DIESEL
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 9004
Summary:
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH DIESEL ENGINES, THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR COULD FAIL DUE TO SEPARATION OF BOND WIRES FROM THE LEAD FRAME IN THE SENSOR. THIS RESULTS IN AN INTERRUPTION IN THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION IN THE CHIP HOUSING OF THE SENSOR.
Consequence:
WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE VEHICLE MAY LOSE POWER RATHER THAN ENTER A LIMP-HOME MODE. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE RESTARTED AFTER FAILURE OF THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION IN THE SENSOR, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING FEBRUARY 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MERCEDES-BENZ AT 1-800-367-6372

Was it 47 vehicles affected, Pinebaron, you should do some lottery, might easily win
I really suffered a headache from laughing so much at your comment.I only win things no one wants; despite I will heed your advice and pick a few tickets today.
One of 57 vehicles
. Mine was perhaps the last one to roll off the 2007 assembly line; I guess they are entitled to one screwup though they claimed a couple of connectors on my O2 sensor were loose last time I took the car in causing the CE light to turn on. Nothing replaced though they were a bit stumped and spent 11 hrs verifying nothing was wrong or needed replacing. I remember unavoidably running over an empty plastic gallon container at speed; not sure if that caused it.
and not one in ten thousand. But I did get a brand new engine cover today (under warranty); my original one though still brand new, had a hairline crack following its first service at the dealer; I could see the crack and knew it was there. The dealer ordered a new one from the factory and it arrived yesterday. Darn things are tight when new.
