My 2008 E63 has the ambient light in front and the ambient bar light in the back (pano roof).

My '08 E350 has ambient lights on both the front and overhead lights. I have no p1 nor p2. The controls are in the multifunction display controlled by the steering wheel.

Sorry to revive an old thread. But I decided to tackle the idea of adding ambient light to the back of a w211 that doesn't have any.

First off I have a Canadian 2008 E300 4matic

This is my current rear dome and you can see that it does not have the normal white ambient light ring.

This is the connector for the rear dome light. It has a tab on it that makes it fit only one way and has 4 wired pins.

You can see the underside of my original dome light on the left. The jack for the connector is circled in red. On the right is the new dome light with ambient lighting. The jack for both of these dome lights are identical.

Here is the interesting part. The ONLY thing that works on the new dome light are the reading lights. Everything else does not work. The ambient lighting, the backlights on the buttons and the dome light (when the doors open) all do not work. Would the car have to be programmed for the new light?

Have you adjusted the ambient light setting in your MFD?

Yeah... it is set to 3 right now. Moving it up or down doesn't do anything to the rear dome. But the thing is is that the rear dome doesn't even have lights on the buttons. It doesn't even light up when you open the doors or hit the rear light switch up front. The only thing that works is the reading lights.

My guess is the rear SAM is the culprit if possible, reprogramming may solve your matter.

Yeah I assume the same. I just spoke with my dealer and they are going to try to tell the car that there is rear ambient light present. Hope this works. I will update after they attempt
