don't know why people are blowing out their brains using Nero, Roxio, iTunes, etc
I guess because people don't know WinXP inherently has a CD/DVD burn engine...and they're using to using a dedicated program...I know i am

All I have learnt is that 07 and later US command hardware, single slot or multi slot, has no capability of reading a DVD since MB made the change. The laser head on a DVD capable reader is very different from that of a CD reader.
CD Laser light:780 nanometers
DVD Laser light: 640 nanometers

How you record on a DVD is irrelevant if the player is not DVD compatible. See an email response from MB I posted several posts earlier.

Just tested MP3 support on my '05 E500. Here's the results:-

Media: Memorex CD-R (80 minute 700MB) and TDK DVD+R

The single-slot on the COMAND unit will play both disc types and allow folder browsing, however it only seems to show the folders with the MP3's in. Therefore I'll need to name the folders with artist and album instead of using multiple sub-folders like /AC-DC/Back In Black

The 6-disc changer that pops out only supports the CD-R. Plus, it does not seem to recognise the folders, thus I have to scroll through all the songs as a flat list. I tried the DVD and it spat it out with an error.

Hmmm... I wonder if the COMAND unit supports dual-layer DVDs too.

Either way, I can now replace the 680 8-track tapes I have in the back seat!

Yes - it will read DVD DL media as that was part of the original DVD specification.

I just tried DVD MP3 and it is working fine!
I was going to buy an ipod solely for my e500 but now I don't have to.
I can buy cheapy blank DVDs and burn over 1000 songs and music onto one DVD.

And I am also glad to find out my 6 CD changer can also play MP3.

WHOOOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:z oom:
