I agree with bmms8. The higher price of the E500 was not much of a factor, especially considering all of the additional power and features that are standard with that model. I also have to admit that talk of a 350 engine around the corner spooked my possible purchase of the 320.

Definitely the E500. price wasn't really the matter, i just liked the extra performance compared to the E320...and riding in my E430, i couldn't have added a V6 to my collection could i....well maybe it its a V6 Kompressor..

about the 350 engine.. does anyone know for sure about it... cuz if itz gonna come out in 'round 3-4 yrs.. then i might as well get a 320 for gas saving purposes (lotta stop 'n' go action), but if itz gonna come out like in 2 yrs.. then i'll get a 500...

I'm getting the 04 E 350. My sources indicate that it definitely will come out
in the 04 model. It will be in the ML as well as the W211. I like the 500 but
really don't want the air suspension especially if I keep the car beyond the
warranty. The 3.7 L 350 engine should have excellent performance with
lots of torque, good fuel economy and no gas guzzler tax. In the meantime
I will continue to enjoy my 02 C320 which is a great sports sedan.

E 320
Different choice

I am about to order E 320 this week. Special order.
I did not test drive E 500.

did test drive GS 300, 525i, 530i and 2000 E 320.
I felt comfortable with 320.
And I drive less than 5 miles a day.

I got the E240 - I can't afford an E500 (Too expensive here) I could have gotten an E320 but wouldn't have loaded it as I did with the E240 and pay just $50K.. I have driven both the 240 and 320 MB engine variations in many classes and the 500 in the S and I must say they are all superb.

The 320 for me.

240 has not enough options and could be a little underpowered, while the 500 and E55 is too expensive and I don't need the extra power.

The 320 is a good "allrounder".

I orginally ordered an e320 but cancelled it as soon as heard about the e350. I am convinced it will be out no later than 04 model year launch, and i did not want to have the "old" car.

Also, the quickly increasing disounts that became available right around release of the info on the e350 moved the e500 into my price range - making it a no brainer.

E55, #2 on the list here.
...unless the price works out to >$83K or so.
In that case I'll probably just get an SL500, or maybe a Maserati.
The M6 ought to be a unique and intriguing car worth considering also, a couple years down the road.

E500

Previous car was a 3 liter V6 (maxima) with 190hp, so I figured as long as I'm upgrading, let's *up*grade. (didn't enjoy a lot of things about the current 255hp maxima).

If I were going to get a E3xx, I'd be likely to add the airmatic and a few other items (I'd go with the sport exterior items but since in the US its all or nothing, I'd skip sport) which would drive the cost up close to the E500 anyway.

But the E320 is a great car - I enjoyed driving both of them, and if I were in a country where fuel wasn't as inexpensive at the US, I'd definitely go for the 6 cylinder. The 320 is definitely not short of power, it responds really well considering it weighs about 700lbs *more* than my maxima and only has 31hp more - good passing ability, quiet, smooth.

Ideally V8s belong in places with cheap gas and wide open spaces - like Texas :-)

Go Horns!

That said, in a perfect world:
W211 E55 with all wheel drive (doesn't exist as of yet)
SL55 for the warmer weather
and an *air cooled* 911 Turbo for brute force and a wonderful sound.

As a devout UT alum, let me also add my "Go Horns!!" to the board. Of course, since our football Horns are pretty much done, we must now turn to our #3 BasketBall Horns....Hook'EM..
