E500 Wagon tail light

I have a tail light out in the rear hatch section and don't know how to access it. Do I have to remove the interior carpet being held on with those plastic expansion pins or is there something I am missing here. I also noticed the rear cargo cover that automatically covers the trunk area is not moving, is there a fuse for this or does someone have any ideas.

Thanks in advance

Cargo cover fix...

My cargo cover also wasn't moving when opening the tailgate when I purchased my CPO car. It was fixed by replacing the rear body control module, or something like that. Service writer told me it is located somewhere in the right rear interior, and that they needed to disassemble the parts near the subwoofer to get to it and replace it. The fix worked, and I've had no problems with the cargo cover since then.

The owners manual says that the rear lights are a unit and are under pressure and could explode, have your MB dealer replace. The cargo cover worked when purchased last year cpo but don't use it alot and just did not notice it stoped working. I will have the dealer look at it. Thanks for the help.

Oh, similar to the sedans, then. Individual bulbs are NOT replaceable, and the whole set, sockets and all, is replaced. That would actually be pretty easy, but you still have to take the panel off the tailgate to gain access. Good thing, then, to have the Service DVD before proceeding with DIY.
