Coolant Message: Question

Once again, I've got a question for you older owners.

My E500 has 51K miles on it. It runs like a dream and I haven't had any problems...

Yesterday, I got a '1 malfunction' mesage.
It said "Coolant. Visit Workshop!"
Once I got home and let the engine cool, I went out, cracked the hood and opened the coolant cap. I looked inside and saw the coolant. I looked on the side of the coolant bottle, looking for the 'fill' marks (hot level, cold level) but didn't see any. By looking at the coolant it looks 'level' but I don't know what 'level' looks like..

What does the message 'Coolant. Visit Workshop' mean?
Am I due for a coolant flush?
I'm not seeing any leaks and I don't smell anything (you know how coolant smells if it's leaking on the engine block)

Any thoughts? Is there a way to reset the indicator?

Help please....

Two possibilities

1. low coolant

2. defective coolant level sensor

Mercedes coolant is good for 15 years so you're not due to be "flushed."

Thanks for the info....

I've got a friend who's a server writer at Park Place MB.
I'll run it by him, see what he says.

Chances are you have a problem with your electric radiator fan. Check your plug on the rad shroud. I had the same warning "coolant wisit workshop" and couldn't find out what was wrong for two months. The engine would beginn heating up while sitting in traffic, so I knew something was not wright. Finally ended up pulling the plug appart and found a terminal had melted off, indicating a short inside the fan motor. Ended up having to replace the entire fan shroud assembly (comes as one unit).
Now everything is well again. Oh and I'm not the only one that has encountered this problem. Ben told that this is a comon issue with the rad fan. It is a fairly easy/streightforward fix if you can turn a wrench. Cost of new fan assembly about $400 online. Hope this may help you.

See above response. If it says coolant visit workshop, thats cause form the cooling fan not working. Turn on your ac and see if the fan is running. If not, thats the problem.
