Bad tailight assembly. AFAIK the taillight assembly doesnt have any user replaceable bulbs. Off to the dealer you go.

Not sure what year your car is, but if it does happen to be out of warranty by 86 miles they might still take care of it for you.Originally Posted by assholio

On the sedan the tail lights are easy to get to. Take off the 6 clips holding the large plastic plate that sits farthest aft and spans the length of the trunk. Make sure to remove the smaller cover around the trunk latch. Then simply pull back the carpeting - the carpeting is also held in by 2 metal clips located near the trunk lights (pull fairly hard on the carpeting).Originally Posted by MB Fanatic

Im not an expert but this doesnt seem like a bulb problem and since the errors are occuring in both lights one of them simply didnt come unplugged.

Yes, we have the extended warranty and they covered it.. Thank god! They said it would have been expensive, as it was the rear control unit that they replaced. She did mention that it probably could have been replaced even after expired warranty, since it seems to be a common problem.Originally Posted by benz_addict
