E500/E55 rear bumper question...

Are the bumper inserts the same for both on the rear bumper of the E500 (Appearance Package) and the E55? I'm pretty sure the front impact strips are swappable but not sure about the rears.

Anyone know?

C - I believe they are. When I did my conversion on my 350 they were the same going to the E63 bumper so i wouldn't see why the 500 would be different.

I think they are too. The only reason I ask is my body shop says that there are 2 different part numbers for the AMG/NON-AMG ones. And when I check OEM parts websites, they're showing 2 different prices. I wonder if you're just paying the AMG markup?

I'm having my AMG bumpers painted right now. We put the bumpers up next to my stock bumpers and the impact strips matched up exactly for the front and the rear and this was also confirmed by my MB junkyard buddy...

I just did an e55 bumper install on my e320 this past weekend. The 3 Impact strips, center bumper mount, and "metal side top mount" pieces transferred over from my e320 non sport bumper perfectly. Word of advice: when you are removing the push pins that hold on the two "metal side top mount pieces" push them out from below, they are not the typical push-pin type connectors. Youll see what I mean when you take it apart, i ended up cracking mine into little pieces.

The 2 "side rear bolt mounts" and the side "slip on mounts" seem to be riveted/plastic welded to the bumper so if your amg bumper doesnt come with these good luck transferring them over.

Im doing the front this weekend, does anyone know if I will need anything special (other than fogs/grilles)? All i have right now is the e55 front bumper cover...

I hope you understand my complex terminology there If you need any help with the install just let me know. Likewise if anyone has some tips for the front feel free to share..

I was very impressed with how mercedes mounted the bumper and how easy/fast the swap was and how easily you are able to get perfect fitment. Amazing how superior the mercedes build quality is to some of the bmws I've worked on in the past

Speaking of the AMG markup, does anyone have any suggestions for AMG looking tips on the cheap? I heard silverline, any other good ones? Thx.

Where are you guys finding your bumper covers? I'm having a devil of a time finding an E55 front complete with mesh and fogs. I did find one, but alas it didn't have the headlamp washers.

Oh, and what are you paying for your bumpers? Just so I know the going rate. PM if you don't want it made public.

Thanks!

I paid 550 for both hand delivered to my door in under an hour. No grilles, no impact strips. I was surprised I used a random, generic, find a part website. Theres a front bumper on ebay right now for $200 + $70 shipping. I msg'd him and he seemed flexible on price..

My buddy owns an MB/BMW junkyard here in SoCal. I have him on alert for all W211 E55 and E63 bumpers whenever they hit his shop. He found me the first 2 front and rear and now will let me know first when the next one hits. Once he tells me this forum and myMNonline will be the first places I post.

I used all of the same parts from my original E500 bumper. The only thing I bought was the E55 cover. They did say that they had to slightly modify them to fit, but they said that it wasn't difficult. I'm assuming your body shop should be able to do this without too much effort.

mpx, I was there hanging around the HMS tent with Serg until about 10pm, oh well I guess I'll catch you on the next one...

Cole, sorry but no side skirts right now, I don't even have any but it's on the list and I'll post if/when all of these parts come in.

Benzo, he did say they were all basically the same but I won't know until I'm in there. I'll definately post some pics. when it all comes together in a couple weeks.

For the rear I explained what you needed. In the rear there are no foam inserts and all of the brackets were already on my bumper or swapped right over.

Are you talking about the front or rear? My front should be done with paint 2mrw and I want to make sure I have all the parts together to mount it.

UPDATE: Got the front all apart. So far it appears that all the bumper foam will fit onto the new bumper. The 2 side plastic inner bumper liners appear to need slight modification - the AMG bumper has mounts for the foglights as part of the bumper cover whereas on my OEM bumper the foglights were mounted to the plastic bumper liner. Just need to cut off a few foglight mounting tabs, appears fairly straightforward and I plan on doing it for no purpose other than saving a trip to the dealer.

Just got the front bumper all mounted up, reused all of the old parts, all I had to do was trim the plastic inner liner slightly around the fog lamps.

No, sorry. Just cut off the 2 fog light mounting brackets on the stock inner plastic support. Also cut off the pieces that are on the outside edges of the center air dam. All the foam pieces fit perfectly.

SWEETNESS!

Hopefully, I'll have all my pieces in the next week or so. Then it's off to the body shop for paint.
