PZEV E350's: California and New York Get Lame Duck E350's
Who here has a E350 in California and New York (some other states as well)?
Well I have to say our cars are a step behind everyone else's cars for refinement and performance because MB sells us cars that have very efficient exhausts systems capable of creating very low emissions. The cars are not required but instead MB gets credits for selling these cars and they want that good grace in the eyes of the EPA for these states. Both cars can be registered in all 50 states but the PZEV (Partial Zero Emission Vehicle) car is just above the requirements.
I have 2 2007 E350's. One car was a car I traded for with Long Beach MB and picked up from their facility and the other was a car ordered through a franchise in Oregon (non California Car).
From Day one I have sworn the white E350 (California Car) was slower, rougher, and less responsive than the Red E350 (Oregon spec car). I though it was just production variances and such but recently a friend at mb asked me if both cars were from oregon or if one was from California. He then told me that was why I did not like my white car nearly as much as the red.
I guess exhaust on the PZEV cars is made to clean the air far more but in the process the car has more restriction and it also has different tuning settings.
I know the white car feels slower but I need to take the two out and actually see how much worse it is. Even if its not slower it is more lethargic and it vibrates and feels a step lower on the refinement scale. That same friend can hear which E350 I am driving by just listening to the engine sound when we talk via Cellular phones (while driving). He says the PZEV car droans along instead of having a refined sound.
I guess the idea here is trade for a car from out of state if you can! Dont take a car from California if you dont have to!
Anyone else ever notice this?

If you have a PZEV fuel tank, your datacard will include code 914. If you do not have a datacard for your vehicle and would like a copy, PM your VIN and email address. You can also subscribe here http://epc.startekinfo.com/epc/coverage.jsp to retrieve a copy by entering your VIN.
I would also like to mention DTB P-B-47.20/51 OCT07 E350 PZEV (211.056) if the engine stalls and then will not restart, the securing clips may not have been installed in the quick connectors of the fuel pressure lines causing the fuel supply hose inside of the fuel tank to disconnect from the fuel regulator. Dealer will install securing clips (part A2114710065) along with seal ring (A2114710179).

Someone stole the cat conv off my Toyota 4Runner. In my research I found the cat conv's sold outside of Calif cost a lot less than the ones sold in Calif due to the higher emissions standards.
I wouldn't be surprised if MB does the same thing. I wonder if they do it to E550's as well?
