Wrangling with lease-end decision...

Just when I decided that I want to turn in my E500 after 4 years of leasing the car, MB Credit offers me a deal that discounts my buyout by $8,500 to $22,100 to buy the car outright. My car is an 04 with 49,000 miles. There would not be a warranty but I figure I can negotiate that price down and have my dealer put a certified warranty on the car for a fee.

I've been looking forward to an SUV (likely a BMW X5 4.8) just to have something different, but $22,000 just sounds like a steal. What would you all do?

That is a good buy if you like the car. You car should still be under warranty though. 4 year, 50k mile, you can just buy the extended warranty adding on 1, 2, or 3 years up to 100k miles.

Don't buy it. It's only worth about $25k wholesale so your only beating the market by about 3 grand by buying it. Retail is $28k. I say that you will pay more over the rest of ownership than the three thousand you are saving in maintenance costs etc... Get a new car and move on. I say try to help this economy move out of an imminent recession and buy something nicer...take advantage of the market while it's down
