BUZZ

When driving at slow speeds ranging from 5 to 20 mph (like in parking lot) I hear a low mechanical buzzing sound. I occasionally hear the sound when I open the driver door. The buzz is very similar to the sound made by the automatic door that covers the in dash CD changer. It lasts for 1 to 2 seconds and comes from the middle dash area. The dealer did not know what I am talking about.

Has anyone experienced this sound? Older posts have suggested a dirty ebox fan or defective climate control sensor but neither of these appear to be the problem.

the buzzing noice

ya i have the same damn problem do you feel some feedback from the steering wheel, when you turn at 1-5 MPH cuz i do. Its the steering wrack. What happens is that its on a bridging system and its steering the front axil when i showed the dealer at 300 miles he said "its normal" but i dont think so.
It could just be a mechanical thing. what ever it may, may be normal man dont worry about it Mercedes rocks
were in it together..BTW i have the E350 with sports

vibe

I feel a little vibration. Perhaps it is the speed sensitive steering.

That makes me think its the SBC system pumping up. I can't think of anything else that would make a noise when opening the door while the car is off.

It's the SBC, no doubt about it.

To test it:

While idling with the car in park, pump the brake pedal 3 times and hold it down on the 4th pump. Do you feel and hear that? Is that the noise you're referring to. If so, its the SBC pump. Completely normal. There is a TSB out right now that will dampen the sound of it. Search the forum for this TSB or PM user Konigstiger for more info.

It is the SBC

Thanks Skins Fan. The brake test identified the noise.
