VIN number and replacement keys
I just got an email describing how a thief could obtain a replacement key by simply going to the dealer with the VIN number that they can see through the windshield. I can't believe it's that simple. Do Mercedes dealers ask for ID when someone asks for a replacement key?

MB of SD even has a sign at the parts dept saying so. License & registration is required and they will not even sell them to repair or collision shops. the owner must pick the key up.
