Does anyone know the new E class will be available?
Shouldn't this will be available for sale end of this year?

I would say July or August of 2009 for the US market.

I prefer W211's round front light design.

Some highlights include:
- Steering Wheel mounted gear-shifter lever (S, R, GL, M class)
- Steering Wheel paddle shifter
- COMMAND module + knob ( S, GLK, C)
- Telephone pad/ wrist rest (S Class)
- Multimedia HDD + card reader with Navi - preloaded?

Just to be clear, this thread is talking about the W212 which is a model year 2010 expected to appear in the fall of 2009.

In Europe they would have manual transmission as an option (or standard actually with small engines). A bit odd if the gear shift lever was steering wheel mounted in that case too (although it was on very old cars).

Not too much place for a normal manual box lever on the photo.

The next generation E is to debut at the Geneva auto show in March of 2009, so official press pictures and specs will be revealed sometime after the first of the year 2009.

My dealer tells me the last of the E-Class (W211) Model Year 2009 will be available on August 1, 2008. The prices should be released by MB any day now.

Could you clarify a bit your opinion (or your dealer's opinion if you can). Are you claiming that the W212 prices will be released soon or the 2009 MY W211 prices?

I doubt the last W211 cars would be available not later than the first of August, are you claiming the W212 would be available soon (after August 1st)? I would be willing to place a bet.

Good guess. The C-Class pics were released last year early part of the year, then revealed at Geneva, and then went on sale in the late summer/early fall in the US. The W212 E-Class should be the same.

The 2009 E-Class is still the W211 and will probably be available late summer would be my guess. I hope they do some kind of special edition for the last year like they sometimes do.

I don't think this is only a good guess, there is a lot of info about the official start of sales for Europe:

The interior is like Audi A6. Quick buttons surrounding the rotary dial.

That is not always true. Redesigns and facelifts often come out at odd times of the year.

I have ordered a Model Year 2009 E550 European Delivery that I will pick up at the MB Factory after the first of August 2008. The dealer told me that the factory started releasing the new model year at the factory on the same date the model is released in the United States. I spoke to MBUSA Friday and they told me the prices for the 2009 have not been released. The last time I spoke to them they told me the price would be available on May 1, 2008 for the Model year 2009. I think that will the last of the W211 before the W212 Model Year 2010is released.

I dont get it. Why is MB copying the iDrive? MB and BMW need to be 2 totally different companies, once they start fallowing each others footsteps we're/they're f((ked! I'm not down for the steering wheel mounted gear lever and I'm not down for the "MDrive". This is BS. Thanks to this crap I have to get an Audi after my E55.

The COMAND controller is the best feature. You can control everything from that little knob, but the Mercedes version of iDrive is much simpler and easier to use.

I certainly agree. Perhaps on a W123 it would have been useless as the couple of features it had could be controlled with separate buttons.

One should remember that the BMW iDrive isn't as complicated any more as it used to be when they first introduced it.

I see and Audi hasn't copied the iDrive/COMAND controller? Give me a break. The Audi MMI is not that great and is the same concept as the other two systems. I have tried all three and the Mercedes COMAND knob is the best and the system is the easiest to use.

I do agree about the shifter on the steering wheel, I don't like how that looks/feels and would prefer if MB kept the shifter like Audi or like BMW has on the 5-series.

I know that the first 7-series with iDrive came out in 2003MY and the first MB to use the knob came out in 2007MY. I wonder how long MB had this in the works, or if they really did copy this from BMW.
